“If anyone even looks at you wrong, I will have their eyes. If they speak poorly about you, then I will take their fucking jaw. And I’ll give them to you so you can wear them around your pretty little neck.”

“You’re not God, Roman,”

“Maybe not, but I am the fucking king,” he says, turning his head to look directly into my eyes.

But as he does, mine glance over at the speedometer, before grabbing hold of the door.

“Eyes on the road!” I yell, adrenaline flooding my body.

“You are my fucking queen, Abby. Do you understand me?” He states, his voice calm and collected.

“Roman!” I scream, staring straight ahead as the car continues to speed down the dirt road, the building at the end getting closer and closer.

“Say it, Abigail!” He barks, his tone leaving no room for hesitation.

I stare at him, my eyes wide as he starts grinning widely, making him look completely and utterly deranged.

“I understand!”

“Say it!”

“I’m your fucking queen!” I scream at him, shaking my head back and forth as I laugh, watching him turn back to the road before slamming on the brakes.

We come to an abrupt stop, the tires kicking up loose gravel, the pebbles bouncing off the body of the car, and a cloud of dust engulfing us.

Silence descends inside the car, and all I can hear is the sound of my own breathing. Leaning forward, I crush my lips to his as adrenaline floods my veins.

“It was you,” I whisper against his lips, as his breath hitches in his throat.

“What?”

“It was your eyes I could feel at every event I went to, wasn’t it?” I run my thumb over his cheek. “You were watching me.”

“If I had known, Abby… about your husband.”

Quickly, I place my finger against his lips.

“Shhh, we don’t need to talk of the dead,” I say, swallowing around the lump in my throat, I know exactly what he wants to say. “I had to walk my road alone, so I could find my way home.”

Gently, he presses a kiss to my finger, before pushing it aside and lightly kissing my cheek, slowly trailing kisses along my jaw before recapturing my lips with his.

“I love you,” he whispers reverently.

“I know.”

He glares at me, grabbing both my hands in his.

“So, did you find your way home?”

I shrug, smiling at him, “meh.”

He laughs, throwing open his door before walking round to mine. Looking around I see we’re parked outside of a derelict building, and if I had to hazard a guess, it looks as if it used to be apartments before it was condemned.

I understand he has business to attend to, I do, but surely, they could find a building that doesn’t look like it’s about to collapse.

“Could we not do this somewhere else? This place doesn’t look safe, Roman.” I say, worrying my lip between my teeth, tasting metal in my mouth.

He doesn’t even glance at me as he pulls out his phone.
