As I stare down at the Widowmaker, my heart beats steadily in my chest, thinking of all the things I will miss.

My child.

Roman.

Lily.

My greenhouse.

I hope that Roman will take care of Lily. He might not be a cat person, but he’s a good man, he will find a good home for her.

A bittersweet giggle escapes me, realizing he’ll likely burn the greenhouse down though.

I could never see him watering a plant, let alone an entire greenhouse. I thought I’d be sad at the idea of my flowers burning, but they could burn for Roman if that made him feel better.

I pour the powder into the glass, watching it sink down to the bottom, and knowing that when it’s completely dissolved, this glass of water will become a glass of death.

…And my only way out.

It’s strange, a few months ago no one would have missed me if I died.

Then there was Roman.

God, I feel bad for anyone who gets in his way when he learns the truth. I’d have loved to watch his rage unleashed on all of these fuckers.

But I won’t get that opportunity.

My lips quirk as I reach for the glass, the condensation cold against my skin as I lift it to my lips.

Chapter Forty-Five

ROMAN

“Make sure we keep an eye on her. I don’t want her getting any…ideas.”

“Yes Ma’am. However, I do think that I should mention that round the clock medical supervision, especially for them both, is going to cost you extra.”

“Of course, it fucking does. Everything costs extra with you. You tiny, money-hungry little man.”

“Well, obviously, if my work isn’t valued here, Mrs. Ivanova—”

“What did you just say? Do not ever fucking call me that!”

“Do you want me to kick his ass, babe?”

“No! Please! I…I meant no disrespect, I assure you!”

“Get the fuck out of here you swine! Before I have one of my men crush your fucking head against the wall!”

“Yes! Of course! I…I will leave!”

“You heard her! Get the fuck out out! Now!”

“Arrrgh!”

The door to the room slams open and my sister storms inside, followed closely by Teddy.

But as the lights flick on, the safety on my gun flicks off.
