“Yep, I’m another queer boy. What are you going to do about it? We’re not hurting anyone. Just keep stepping, you old biddy.”
The woman’s face contorted into what only be described as a shocked picacho face. “Well, I never.”
“And you never will if you keep acting the way you are. Why don’t you get your broom and fly off?” I retorted.
The woman scoffed and scurried away. I shook my head and turned back to look at Edward. “Bitch, needs to get laid.”
Talon laughed and settled beside me. “Amen. I hate people like that.”
I nodded in agreement but didn’t continue.
“Who’d a thought? My king bats for my team. You lucky bastard.”
I glanced at Talon. "I am really lucky. That hot man is all mine.”
“Yeah, rub it in.”
I laughed. “I lucked out. It could’ve gone worse. In fact, I almost made the biggest mistake of my life.”
“What do you mean?” Talon asked, tilting his head.
“I rejected him when we first met,” I answered honestly.
Talon’s mouth dropped open. “You rejected him? Are you serious?”
“Yeah,” I gazed back toward Edward and grinned. He was surrounded by little kids and was handing out hot chocolates.
“Why? Why’d you reject him?” Talon’s voice dripped with bewilderment.
I could understand his confusion. Mates, Fated Mates at that, shouldn’t reject each other. I looked back at him and sighed. “Because I was scared. I had all these prejudices toward predators in my head, I had a boyfriend, and I was terrified of what being with him meant.”
“Wow, I…. wow. Who knew finding a mate was so filled with drama?”
I laughed at his statement. He was right. Finding your mate wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. It took work and a lot of fate.
“What’s so funny?”
I smiled up at Edward, who held three steaming cups of cocoa. “Let me help you.” Talon stood and grabbed one of the cups.
“Take it. That one’s for you,” Edward replied.
Talon said his thanks and quickly walked away, giving us space. Edward moved close beside me and handed me one of the cups.
“Thank you, Eddie.”
Edward grinned. “You’re welcome, Bunny.”
He took a sip of his drink, and I followed suit. The hot liquid warmed my body, and the sweetness was just right.
“Mmm, this is perfect. Hits just the spot.”
“Here. Try some chestnuts.” Edward held out the bag, and I pulled one out. It was sweet and nutty, and it melted in my mouth. It was absolutely divine. I quickly grabbed another, and Edward laughed. I glanced up at him, and he wore a radiant smile. What was so funny?
We sat quietly and enjoyed our snack, watching the different skaters fill the rink. This night was amazing.
“What were you and Talon laughing about?” Edward asked again.
I turned to face him. “Is that jealousy I hear?”
