“Is this a fight?” Honor asked. “It doesn’t feel like a fight.”
“It’s not us making love.” Silver took both of Honor’s hands. “Honor, can you really be okay with me being who I am when it comes to this stuff? Us being at work parties or getting caught by Kathleen at the farmer’s market on a random Sunday? If she asked you how we met, what would you tell her?”
“I’ve already told Kathleen.”
“You know what I mean.”
“I’d tell her that I love you and that you make me very happy. I’d tell her that I met you at an art show for your collective.”
“And if she asked what the show was about?”
“Kathleen isn’t the most important person to me, Silver.” Honor cupped her cheek. “Other than you, there’s just Temperance. My parents and I talk how business associates do, but my sister matters more to me than anyone else in my life.”
“And if she asked?”
“I’d tell her,” Honor said with a smile. “I’d tell her that we met at an art show and that you are a genius at putting them together. You did something innovative and provocative, and I went one night to check it out because it sounded like something I’d never do. I’d tell her that I met you, we dated, and now, we’re together.”
“Really? You told her we worked together when she was here.”
Honor nodded and walked around to her table where she found her phone and picked it up.
“What are you doing?”
“Sit,” Honor instructed. “Take off all your clothes and get ready for bed, babe. I just need a minute.” She dialed.
“Honor, what’s going on?”
“Strip, Silver.” She pointed and then added into the phone, “Hey, Temps.”
“Hey, it’s late. What’s up?”
“You’re still up, yeah?”
“Obviously. I didn’t answer the phone while asleep. How was your big thing tonight?”
“It was great. I got a big donor.” Honor said, watching Silver, who stood in front of her looking confused.
“Yeah? Congrats. That’s awesome.”
“Yeah. Hey, I want to talk to you about something.”
“Okay.”
“You remember that woman you saw here the last time you were over? I told you that we worked together.”
“Yeah. Why?”
“Well, Silver doesn’t work with me. I freaked out a little when you were still here and she was at the door already. She’s my girlfriend. We had a… date that night. You stayed late.”
“You have a girlfriend?” Temperance asked, sounding excited.
Meanwhile, Silver removed the remainder of her clothes and climbed onto the bed.
“I do, yeah. A few months now. It’s great. I love her.”
“You’re in love?”
“Yeah.” Honor laughed. “I met her at this art show. She’s a brilliant art director. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that we’re together.”
