Josh lifts his hand and places it to his chest. “Man,” he mouths to me before quickly regaining himself. “Miss Wilson, Mrs. Sacco will stay here.”
The cute brunette looks over at me. “No, I want this private.”
“Of course, you can use the patio,” I say. They want Eliza isolated to see if she feels I’m a threat.
“Only if my dog can come.” Eliza looks down at Storm by her side.
“Absolutely.”
“Mr. Sacco, I have some questions for you,” Tyler says. Fucking bastard, he’s doing this so that Josh is forced to choose between me or Eliza.
“Go with Eliza,” I instruct Josh.
He heads over to me and whispers, “Does the girl know anything about your work?”
“Not to my knowledge.”
“Do you trust her?”
“Of course.”
“Then you need me more than she does. If she knows nothing, then they won’t get anything.”
I look at Eliza and everything is telling me that Josh should stay with her. “No, go with her.”
“Ruben, let me do what I do.”
Fuck. If he comes with me, he can’t protect her. It goes against my instincts, but he’s also right. “Tyler, my office. I’m sure you know the way by now.” Eliza’s piercing blue eyes find mine, and she gives me a small yet confident smile.
Tyler better sleep with one eye open, because he’s messing with fucking fire.
Eliza
Adele’s been asking me questions, trying to trip me up on my answers. But the one thing I’ve learned while I was with Adrian is to give limited replies. Don’t overcomplicate anything that someone can use against me.
The past half hour has been spent with this FBI woman asking me all kinds of questions, most of them involving the activities of Ruben Sacco. Even if she asked me about Adrian, I wouldn’t say a word to her, because in my heart, I don’t think any law enforcement would be able to stop Adrian.
I want the opportunity of seeing Adrian plead for his life. Literally. Prison is too good a place for Adrian, and with his means and opportunity, he’d go in there and live like a king. I want him to know what it’s like to live in fear, to not know when the next blow is coming. I want him to count the seconds he’s alive knowing that they will be the last moments of his life.
The questioning isn’t going anywhere, and Adele knows it. “Look,” she starts as she sits forward on the chair. Storm stares at her, ready to pounce if she tries to touch me. “I’m going to be honest with you. Your husband, he’s in a world of trouble.”
Yes, yes he is. “Is he?”
“Ruben Sacco is a scary man. Do you really want to live the rest of your life with him?” I could only be so lucky to have him in my life forever instead of that revolting nephew of his I’m married to.
“What do you want?” I ask.
“Have you heard anything about a hundred and twenty pounds missing of cocaine?”
“No.” Sure have, lady, but there’s no chance in hell I’ll tell you.
“What about three clubs that were all hit simultaneously?”
“No.”
Adele exhales and shakes her head. Wait, they actually believe I’m married to Ruben. Tyler mentioned it in the dining room, and neither Ruben nor Josh corrected him.
“Mrs. Sacco, I think it’s important for you—”
