Jeff liked that plan. “It will also give her the chance to get to know us better.”

Zane lowered his chin. “Remember, the plan is to keep her safe, not to jump her bones.”

“Don’t be crass,” Jeff said.“This is our mate you’re talking about.”

The door to the clinic’s hallway opened and Blair came out. Both Zane and he jumped up.

“What did the doctor say?” Zane asked.

Blair managed a smile. “I’ll be sore and bruised for a while, but thankfully, no concussion this time.”

“How about if you ask her if she’s willing to move in since she’s more likely to agree if it’s coming from you,”Jeff telepathed.

“Let’s take her home first,”Zane argued.

“Sure.”Whenever Jeff was near Blair, his thought process seemed to short-circuit.

“Is something going on I should know about?” Blair asked.

Jeff wasn’t sure what specifically she was talking about. “What do you mean?”

“Both of you were locked in a stare. It looked like you were plotting your next move.”

She was quite perceptive. When his cheeks flushed, he tried to play it cool. “Well, you’re right. I was at least. I’m starving and was thinking of dinner. Are you hungry?” Jeff asked.

Blair’s eyes brightened. “I am, but I’d prefer to go home, take a shower, and freshen up first before I eat. I’ll feel better if I’m clean.”

“I get that.”

If they went to a restaurant, it might be harder to discuss options about her future. “How about I pick up a pizza for us? That way you won’t have to sit on a hard chair at a restaurant?” Jeff wanted to show her he thought of her needs.

She smiled and his cock stiffened.Damn it.

“Perfect.”

“What do you want on your pizza?” he asked.

“I’m easy. You choose.”

For a moment, it seemed as if the three of them were this compatible trio, but he didn’t want to get ahead of himself.

Once Zane and Blaire left the clinic for her house, Jeff headed into town to order a pizza. To save time, he called his favorite restaurant and ordered two different pizza types.

Jeff couldn’t shake the conflicting emotions of concern and elation. He and Zane needed to tread carefully, considering the potential dangers surrounding her. The bottom line, however, was that he had to keep her safe no matter what.

The hot water flowing over Blair's sore body did nothing to ease her internal turmoil. She knew she should take the pain pills prescribed by the doctor, but her mother had chosen to go that route, and it hadn't ended well for her.

As if Blair's physical pain wasn't bad enough, the images of the accident kept playing out in her mind. Had she accidentally crossed that dashed white line and entered the path of the vehicle behind her that was trying to pass her? No matter how many times she replayed the incident, she couldn't remember it clearly.

Suddenly the proverbial light bulb went off. Right before her car veered off course, she felt two bumps—not one as she'd previously thought. Or was her imagination filling in those empty blanks?

Blair wanted to blame the other driver for being careless, but maybe that was too easy an answer. Perhaps if she'd been paying more attention, none of this would have happened...no matter how much it hurt for her to admit it.

Regardless of the details, someone had run her off the road. If it was on purpose, the question was why? The only person she'd upset lately had been John Gaines.

Sure, they had left things on a sour note, but he'd cheated on her—not the other way around. And then he wanted her to return to his company. If he was behind the accident, why harm her? The only explanation was that he finally realized that she would never come back.
