Jeff telepathed that so that no one would hear his declaration. What he didn’t expect was for Zane to smile.

“Well, I’ll be damned. I’m pretty certain she’s mine too,”Zane told him.

Mixed emotions swirled within Jeff—worry for Blair’s safety and the joy of potentially findingtheirmate. “Are you certain?”

“As certain as you are,” Zane confirmed.

They’d often discussed what it would be like to find one woman to love. “So what’s the plan? Blair is fiercely independent and unlikely to jump into a relationship with us. Not to mention, she doesn’t seem too fond of me,” Jeff confessed.

Zane’s grin turned knowing. “She’ll come around. But for now, we can’t think with our dicks. We have to do what is best for her.”

Zane’s words resonated with him. “What do you suggest? If she is in danger, we have to make sure there are no other attempts on her life—assuming the car accident wasn’t someone not paying attention.”

“That goes without saying. How about we offer to drive her to work for now since she doesn’t have a car? I realize it’s not a long-term solution, but it would help her out,” Zane said.

Jeff raised his eyebrows. “It would be a win-win. She might actually take us up on the offer since she doesn't have a working car. I have no idea about her finances, but she might have to wait for the insurance money to come in before she buys a new one.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if her finances aren't the best. Blair mentioned her upbringing was one of hardship,” Zane said.

“Really?”

“I hadn’t mentioned it since it is Blair’s story to tell, but she said that her dad abused her mom. That would be a terrible way to grow up,” Zane said. “She didn’t elaborate, but in circumstances like that, the dad was often a deadbeat father who might not have provided for them.”

Jeff’s heart nearly broke. “I had no idea.”

“She hides it well.”

“Where’s the dad now?” Jeff wanted to know everything about her.

“I didn’t ask. She was already upset that her ex showed up to her listing. I didn’t want to heap any more pain on her.”

“No, I get it. We don’t want to smother her with too many questions either. She’d wonder why we were so interested. I guess where her mom is didn’t come up either?”

Zane smiled. “No. You do have it bad.”

“Fuck you,”he telepathed.“I just want to understand if there are any threats out there.”

“I hear you.”

“I’m good with suggesting one of us drives her to work, but what about when she’s alone at night?” Jeff asked.

“I have an idea,” Zane said.

“You aren’t thinking of asking her to move in with you, are you?” Jeff asked.

His friend chuckled. “Even if I asked her, she’d say no. Blair is someone who has been on her own for a while.”

Jeff snapped his fingers. “I’ve got it.”

“Do not suggest she move in withyou.”

“Hardly, but how about I offer her the apartment? I’ve just finished the renovations—or rather the appliances are finally in. Other than cleaning up my paint cans and stuff, it is livable, though not really decorated. But don’t worry. I won’t be living there with her.”

Zane nodded. “That was what I was about to suggest.”

“I’m sorry I interrupted you.”

“If she balks, we could mention that it will be easier for us to take her to work since she’ll basically be at our workplace.”
