“Jeff? Expressive? If you say so.”

Ouch.

"Blair," Jeff said. “For starters, I don’t think Avery could do much to stop an intruder or prevent someone from running you off the road again.”

“And you could?” she challenged.

“We could stop an intruder. As for keeping the car on the road if we were hit, I’d put my money on me and Zane being able to keep the car from going anywhere we didn't want.”

She blew out a breath. “Okay, fine. Avery wouldn’t make a good bodyguard—not that I’m convinced I need one.”

Jeff nodded. “We have a solution to our problem that hopefully you'll be okay with."

"Ourproblem? Seems like I'm the one without a car and who possibly has someone after her—though I don't know why or who might be responsible."

"I get that." Jeff tossed back more of his beer. "Here's the thing. Neither Zane nor I could live with ourselves if someone harmed you more seriously than they already have." He held up a hand. "I'm not saying someone is out to get you for sure, just that it's a possibility. That's why I'd like to offer you my almost finished loft to stay in."

Zane held his breath, waiting for her answer.

Blair's brows scrunched. "If you didn't notice, my place is perfectly fine. It's my car that was wrecked."

This wasn't going as planned. "The loft is above our warehouse. Jeff is renovating it to someday live there. It's probably the safest place to be right now. No one would attempt to break into a building with security alerts."

She blew out a breath. "That's very generous of you, but I don't want to inconvenience you."

Jeff grinned, which wasn't how he expected his rather intense friend to react.

“Ah, but there is a catch,” Jeff said with an unexpected amount of cheer in his voice.

“What’s the catch?” she asked.

“We'll drive you to work in exchange for some assistance," Jeff said.

“What kind exactly?” she asked.

"When you see the place, you'll understand. I will clean up the paint cans and tarps, so don't worry. While there is a bed, a dresser, a sofa, and some chairs, the place is kind of unfurnished. I'd love for you to decorate it any way you want. I want to outfit the place really well, but that's not where my talent lies."

Blair took another bite of her pizza, looking thoughtful. "In exchange for giving you two some peace of mind—not to mention my own—you'll chauffeur me around if I decorate your apartment? That's it?”

Zane wanted to say so much more, like how they'd love it if she could be open to letting them into her heart, but now wasn't the time to bring that up.

"Yes," Jeff said.

She looked around her home with a sigh. "I love it here, but this subdivision isn't a gated community. I honestly thought I could tough it out, but I'm starting to feel the effects of the accident.”

When she rubbed her shoulder, Zane jumped up, feeling helpless. "Do you need anything?"

She smiled weakly. "No, thank you. Sit down, please. I just meant that my muscles are starting to tighten up and I'm really tired, not to mention, a bit of paranoia is creeping in.”

"We can spend the night here if you don't want to move in tonight," Jeff offered.

Blair huffed out a chuckle. "I only have one bedroom."

The two men shared a knowing look. They weren’t about to tell her that they could sleep in their wolf form. "Do you think you're up for packing an overnight bag? When you're more rested, you can come back and get more things—just until we figure out who is responsible."

By then he hoped she'd want to stay and make Jeff's loft a home. He never thought he might be living above their workplace, but if Blair lived there too, that's exactly where he wanted to be.
