“That explains a few things. I always thought Mrs. Hensley wasn’t quite right,” Blair said.
"That's not the strange part. I was doing something nearby when I heard Daryl asking questions about the couple once they were called back to the doctor’s office,” Malia said.
“Why is that odd?” Jeff asked. "And who is Daryl?"
“Daryl is an orderly. He shouldn’t be asking any questions.”
“Do you know Daryl's last name?” Zane asked.
“Dragman.”
Blair’s heart stopped for a second.
CHAPTERTWENTY-THREE
“There wasa Daryl Dragman at the Hensleys’ house recently,” Zane said. “Mr. Hensley told us that Dragman was an insurance agent.”
“There could be two Daryl Dragmans though that is highly unlikely,” Jeff’s uncle said. “Let me see where Mason is on his investigation of the man.” He dialed his son’s number. “It’s Dad. What did you find out about Daryl Dragman.” Adam pulled out a piece of paper and jotted down some notes. “You do that. And thanks.”
“What did he say?” Jeff asked.
“There appears to only be one Daryl Dragman, brother to Mike Dragman. That’s the brother who was attacked by Blair’s dad. I need to follow up with the warden to see if he’s learned the reason for the fight.”
“Let’s hope he can find out. I’m guessing that Daryl Dragman lied to Mr. Hensley about being an insurance agent then?” Jeff asked.
“Apparently, but the question is why,” Adam said.
“Maybe this wasn’t Daryl’s first time at the Hensley’s house,” Zane said. “He could have learned who the Hensleys’ insurance company was and then posed as an agent in order to scope out the place.”
“That implies Daryl and an associate robbed the Hensleys,” Adam said.
“We shouldn’t discount it. Just so we are all on the same page, I told Blair here about our kind and that we saw two werewolves on camera go up to the house,” Jeff said.
Zane reached out and clasped her hand. “Are you okay with us being…?”
“Werewolves?” Blair answered. “I need some time to deal with it. As you might guess, this is all new to me.”
“Blair,” Malia said. “Uncle Adam mentioned that your father is a werewolf.” She covered her mouth. “Uh-oh. I am so sorry if you didn’t know.”
“Jeff told me, which means I am one too.”
Malia’s shoulders sagged. “If you need to learn more about what it means and how we are different, we can talk.”
Blair gave her a brief smile. “I’d really appreciate it.”
“Blair,” Adam said. “Being part werewolf is a good thing. Your instincts and reaction times are superior to ordinary humans. Not only that, your healing time is much faster.” Adam looked over at Jeff. “Did you tell her about how hard it is to hurt or kill a werewolf?”
“Uncle Adam! She was in enough shock,” Jeff said. “Besides, your call came as I was explaining everything.”
He held up a hand. “Sorry. So, back to the issue. If I have the series of events correct, Daryl Dragman seemed really interested in the Hensleys while at the hospital.”
Malia lifted her hand. “I forgot to mention that after he finished speaking with the nurses’ station, I asked her what he wanted. Daryl told her that he overheard the couple talking about how they were struggling to pay their bill.”
“Daryl asked this?” Jeff asked.
“Yes. I think he was trying to figure out their financial situation,” Malia said.
“Any idea why?” Adam asked.
