“We don’t have time to…you know,” I say.

“It’ll wait,” Kal replies, kissing my ear, “but not for long. I was just thinking about Christmas. It’s gonna be associated with very different things now.”

“I guess the bad stuff from the past can be pushed out by all the good that’s yet to come.” I take his hand. “But for now, let’s just have today to keep in our hearts. Every day of happiness is a gift.”

“That’s why they call it the present, right?”

I smile. “Right.”

We walk out to a flurry of confetti and rice, running past my family as they cheer. Our wedding car is waiting, but I see no driver. As we reach it, Kal opens the passenger door, and I climb in.

“What are you…?”

“You’ll see.” Kal gets in and drives away, honking the horn as everyone waves goodbye.

I frown at him.

“Where are we going? I thought we were going for a meal.”

It’s alright, milaya. Everybody else is going to have food and live it up. Butweare going on honeymoon.”

“What, now?”

“Yep. Now stop asking questions.”

After a short while of driving through the snow, the penny drops.

“We’re going to the airport,” I say. “Have you seen the weather? We won’t be able to—”

“Not on a commercial flight, no,” Kal grins. “Can you guess where I’m going with this?”

* * *

Back on Kal’s plane, this time in my wedding dress.

The world seems a different place compared to just a few months ago. Back then, he and I were worse than strangers. I hated him before I even met him. Now I can’t imagine my life without him.

I recline on the seat as the pilot fires up the engine. The plane begins to move, slowly taxiing away from the terminal.

Kal is watching me as I massage my calf.

“I have a confession to make, Dani.”

“Sounds ominous. What?”

“When I first met you, I had to lock myself in that bathroom,” he says, pointing, “and jerk off just enough to not give myself away. You were driving me fucking wild.”

“As much as I am now?” I smirk.

Kal and I have a piece of shared knowledge that we want to act on. But not while the seatbelt light is still lit.

“I’m only more crazy about you now. But that’s not all.” Kal takes a deep breath. “I got the pilot to lie about the weather being too bad to get to NYC. I just wanted to get you alone in London with me.”

Sneaky bastard.

“To be honest, I guessed that part,” I say. “It was sunny outside, and we were well out of Geneva. And it wasn’t raining or foggy when we landed at Heathrow, either.”

Kal laughs. “Trust me to try an excuse like that on one of the three days a year that the weather isn’t shitty in London.”
