I close my eyes, roll my lips in, and take a deep breath. I can’t be the reason Micah dies. I let myself go numb and open my eyes to Ryan stroking his dick harder, millimeters from my face. My body dry heaves as precum oozes out of the tip.

He pushes forward and my face turns on instinct, causing the tip to glide hard against my jaw bone, smearing sticky liquid on my face.

“I am going to fucking kill you!” Micah’s voice thunders in the building.

“Uh, Ry. We have a problem.” Parker runs into the room, stumbling when he sees the scene in front of him. He hunches over, hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. “We’ve got company.”

Ryan curses and then glares back at me. “I should have taken you in the Hamptons when I had the chance; like I did with your little friend.” He leans in closer. “Maybe I’ll do you both next time.”

He tucks his dick back in his pants, then backhands me hard across my face. The sound of metal scraping against concrete rings in my ear as the chair falls over, taking me with it. It feels like there’s actual fire on my cheek from the blow.

I raise my chin. Ryan and his henchmen scurry out of the room only seconds before Elijah enters, a gun raised and ready in his hand as he methodically scans the room.

He walks in with confident, deliberate steps, his slender fingers wrapped around the gun with practiced hands. His steel eyes are nearly black when they meet mine, and I can’t help the heated shivers to my belly.

I let go of the breath I was holding and look over at Micah, who is slumped over in his chair.

Oh, no!

Less than a minute later, Caleb runs in like an avenging god, his chest growing bigger as he takes in the scene. A few more Knights run in, and he immediately starts barking out orders to search the premises while he goes to check on Micah.

“They’re gone,” I croak. My throat is dry and burning from holding the bile in for so long.

Elijah stalks over to me. His gray eyes swirl like he can unleash the destruction of a hurricane with a single command. He puts his gun in its holster underneath his jacket and then silently unties me, careful not to touch my skin.

Once I’m free, he speaks. “Do you get it now, Evelyn? This—”

“I didn’t do this,” I harshly whisper, cutting off his words, and desperately try to cover my exposed chest with pieces of my shirt.

We both glare at each other, unable to move forward, but unable to step back until I break the silence.

“This was about you,” I whisper and he frowns, tenderly wiping at the blood drying on my lips. Once he realizes what he’s doing, he immediately drops his hand, annoyance back on his face.

“I’m taking her back to campus. You got things here?” he asks Caleb, who is trying to help Micah stand.

Caleb nods, completely focusing on Micah, who groans in pain. It makes my heart stop. He could have died tonight.Again.

“What if they come back?” My words are cautious as I start moving toward the exit.

“They’re dead men walking,” Elijah whispers darkly and pushes me out the door.

Once we’re outside, we head towards Elijah’s motorcycle, and he shoves a helmet in my hands.

“It must kill you to help me.”

He scoffs. “I’m not doing this for you. Just get on the fucking bike.”

I grimace, my breath labored now that the adrenaline has stopped flowing, and my lungs can’t seem to hold air. I put the helmet over my head and climb onto his motorcycle without another word.

* * *

Once we get to my dorm room, I snark at Elijah, annoyed at his silence. I had to wait around while he made several stops on the way back to pick up bandages, medicine, and liquor without saying a single word to me and leaving me on his bike while he shopped.

It wasn’t like I could walk in with a torn shirt or motorcycle helmet, and I sure as hell wasn’t about to walk in with blood and cum on my face.

“I’ve made it to my room. You can go now.”

He shakes his head. “I’m not some fucking lackey, princess. They’ll expect me to be here.”
