Page 48 of Thor & Dragon
Sasha and I help Roxy whip up breakfast for all the guys and the bunnies. The bunnies are supposed to be on rotation to help us, but really, only Sarah and Amy help when it’s their day. After breakfast, Thor heads into his office at the clubhouse while Dragon and I head to the Bar and Grill if it’s a weekday. They still don’t want me to be unescorted because of Fang, so we rearranged my office so that Dragon could have a desk in here too when I have to come in to do paperwork. After my shifts, we head back to the clubhouse. Like breakfast, Sasha, Roxy, and I usually make supper with occasional help from the bunnies. Evenings are spent either at the clubhouse or relaxing at the house.
Today’s Saturday and the guys have just gone into Church. Yesterday, Sasha, Roxy, and I decided that we’d whip up pancakes, sausage, eggs, and bacon for breakfast this morning. Heading over to the pantry, I grab the pancake mix and frown as I take in the state of the pantry. Looking over my shoulder, I notice Roxy grabbing the bacon and eggs from the fridge.
“Hey, Roxy? You said you went to the grocery store yesterday with a couple of prospects, right?”
She turns, a frown on her face too. “Yeah, we did. We loaded up four carts full of groceries and I can’t find half of what we bought for the fridge stuff.” It’s obvious when she notices the lack of food in the pantry behind me, because her eyes go wide and her fists clench. “Those were stocked full! What the hell is going on?”
I have to bite my cheek to hold in my smile at her outburst. I’ve gotten to know Roxy very well these past few months, and I’m happy to see her coming out of her shell.
“Let’s grab out the supplies we have and if need be, we’ll send a couple of prospects to get the rest before the guys get out,” I say and pull out one and a half boxes of pancake mix and four syrup bottles from the pantry. Sasha and Roxy pull out four dozen eggs, two packs of sausage, and three packs of bacon. For the fruit, we only have a few apples, two containers of strawberries, one container of raspberries, one bag of grapes, and a couple of oranges.
“Okay, we really need to send someone out.” I exhale heavily and grab the pad of paper off the shelf, frantically writing down what else we need for breakfast while Sasha calls over the prospects.
“Guys, we need one or two of you to make an emergency run to the store!”
“We just went yesterday,” Drae groans. Sasha huffs and points angrily at the pantry.
“Well, then groceries are growing legs and walking out of here because Roxy said those shelves were stocked full yesterday. Same with the fridge,” she growls.
Their eyes widen before narrowing when they look at the pantry. The doors are still open so they’re able to see how bare the shelves are.
“I’ll mention this to Thor later, but we have to get breakfast going with the supplies that we have. Can you run and get this so we can finish breakfast? We’ll worry about the other stuff later,” I say as I hand the list to Colt. He reads it over, nods, and turns to Drae and Alexei.
“I’ll get this. You two stay with the ladies.”
“Thor said no one should ride alone right now,” Alexei says as he looks up from the laptop in front of him.
I bite my lip. We only have three prospects, but Travis and Ethan should be somewhere in the compound. Thor always wants all three prospects in the main room when they’re at Church. No one should be entering the compound, so the gate doesn’t need to be manned. One of them also helps watch the cameras on a laptop from the common room, which is what Alexei’s currently doing. At least the bunnies aren’t out here right now. I do not want to deal with their crap on top of the missing groceries. Even though it’s Ginger’s day to help us in the kitchen, she’s nowhere to be found, like usual. The other bunnies are probably still in their rooms.
“Alexei, since you’re on laptop duty, can you please text Travis and Ethan to come up to the main room for a bit? I know they aren’t prospects, but they both know how to fight. Drae, you go with Colt.”
Colt nods at my words and Drae rolls his eyes at me but gets up. Colt’s and Alexei’s eyebrows rise as they share a look at Drae’s behavior. Colt nods to me again, his lips in a flat line and his hand raises to snatch the SUV keys Roxy just tossed to him. Both of them leave, and I have a nagging feeling that something isn’t right.
Frowning, I glance at Alexei to see his take on the situation, but he’s also frowning and staring at the door the guys had just gone through. Maybe I’m not the only one that’s been thinking Drae’s been acting differently for the last few weeks. Looking over my shoulder, the ladies are also frowning before going back to their tasks. Yup, definitely not just me.
Shaking my head, I start prepping the pancakes. As we’re cooking, a wave of nausea comes over me and I start to feel a little lightheaded. Shaking my head, I steal a few bites of fruit that Sasha’s cutting up. She raises her eyebrow in question, and I nod. She moves the bowl of fruit she’s already cut up closer to me and I take a few more bites. For the last few days, I’ve been feeling more drained and hungrier than normal. I figured it was just the stress getting to me about Fang. Either that or I’m coming down with something again. Sighing, I get back to work on the pancakes.
I put the last pancake under the warmer and clean up my supplies. Hopefully Colt and Drae will be back soon, so we can finish making breakfast. I had just put my dishes in the sink, planning to wash them quick so I’d be prepared to keep cooking once the guys got back when my phone rings.
It’s an unknown number. That’s odd. I have everyone’s number in the club programmed into my phone so it couldn’t be Colt or Drae. With a sigh, I let it go to voicemail and slip it back into my pocket. Maybe it’s spam or someone claiming my car warranty is about to expire. My phone beeps, letting me know a message was left but I’ll listen to it later.
Not even five minutes later and my phone rings again. Once again, it’s the same unknown number, so I slip it back in my pocket.
“Not gonna answer that?” Roxy asks.
I shake my head and shrug. “No idea who it is, so I’m letting it go to voicemail. Probably spam.”
She nods and I start prepping what was left of the fruit that Sasha’s been cutting up.
The front door swings open and Colt’s carrying a dozen or so bags. His face is tight in anger, and now I’m wondering what happened while they were gone. Drae’s right behind him with only a couple of bags. He drops them roughly on the pass-through counter and walks over to the pool table.
“Drae, get your ass out here and help carry in the rest of the food!” Colt barks as he leaves the kitchen. Drae slams the cue he’d been holding on the table and follows Colt outside, grumbling under his breath. Roxy looks at me, shock written on her face, and I shrug. I don’t know what the hell’s going on with him, but I’ll definitely be mentioning something to Thor and Dragon later.
We quickly unpack all the groceries and get back to work. I don’t know if we’ll have everything finished before the guys got out of Church, but I doubt the guys would complain. They’ve been loving the meals we’ve been making.
I just finished mixing more pancake batter when my phone rings again from the same damn number. Frustrated, I answer the call.
“What?” I bark into the phone. All eyes snap to me at the harshness of my voice.
