“I don’t know. You seem like you have a big appetite. You talked about Lair and…” He shrugs. “You’ll tell me if you need more, right?”
I abruptly stop walking, pulling his wrist to swing him around until he’s facing me. “Darling. My sweet man. You don’t fully understand yet, and that’s okay. You will. Right now, your mortal experiences are all you have to draw on. The sex I’ve had…” I shake my head. “It was just a way to pass the time or feed my lust, but none of it meant anything. Not one single interaction. They are nameless, faceless bodies. I was just passing time until I got to you.”
“Thorn…”
I lift his arm, swinging him around in a waltz as he giggles. “I wish I could find words to explain how different it is. How it’s so much more. You said it was like the world was muted. Maybe that’s the best description for what my life was like before you. I was happy. Content. But I had no idea what I was missing. You turned the color and sound up. The idea of another person coming anywhere near me is repulsive. It’s only you now, Kyson. Just us. If you don’t believe me yet, it’s okay. You will.”
His smile fades as he gazes up at me before jumping into my arms and attacking my mouth. I return his passionate kiss, tasting his divine flavor and swinging us around on the sidewalk, ignoring the wolf whistles from a passing car.
After a moment, Kyson sighs, his sweet breath still warm as it fans over my face. “You’re so amazing. I can’t believe this is my life now.”
“Believe it, beautiful. It’s only getting better from here.”
Chapter 23
KYSON
The two of us enter Minx, and it takes me a minute to realize it was barely a week ago when we met. A week. Somehow, we crammed a year into those days.
My wistful thoughts stop suddenly as I’m accosted by too many scents and sounds at once. I cup my ears with my hands, but the action does nothing to block out the noise. Then a soft voice swirls around me.
“Lean into it, love. The more you experience it, the sooner it fades and just becomes white noise. Listen for my voice. It’s the only one you need.”
I nod, my brow creasing with concentration until Thorn’s words ring true and the blaring music and cacophony of voices blends into the background. The tension slips away and I relax my shoulders.
“Oh, wow.”
“Just remember that when it becomes too much.”
I grip his hand, nodding. “Okay.”
Thorn kisses my temple. “There’s a table.”
“No. I want to dance.” I run my hands over his broad chest. “I never dance in public.”
“Then let’s dance, love.”
I laugh, following him as he guides me to the crowded dancefloor. The mixed scent of a thousand perfumes, shampoos, and beauty products tickles my nose, but I do the concentrating thing again, focusing on Thorn.
It works as he pulls me close, grinding into me and holding my hips. He gazes down at me with lust all over his face, his fangs totally visible, but no one is paying attention to us. Surrounded by all these people, we’re still in our own world.
I straddle his thigh, grinding my swelling dick against it, the scent of Thorn spreading through me. He cups my face.
“Gods, Kyson. You are so stunning.”
I laugh softly, feeling my cheeks warm, which surprises me. I can still blush. Oh shit. I’m a fucking vampire.
“Yes, you are. My vampire,” he whispers, but I can hear him clear as day over the loud music.
“It’s so exciting,” I whisper back. “What else can I do?”
“Anything.” He hooks an arm around my waist, pulling me until our chests are pressed together. “We can fuck for days without getting tired.”
“Ooh, I want that.”
“You’ll get it.”
“So we don’t eat anymore?”
