“Yes.”

“I’ll show you.”

I follow Kyson to a back room where he opens a door and leads me into a smaller room with a desk and some computer equipment.

“It’s super old and barely works,” he explains, clicking on the keyboard. “But it’s always been enough. Criminals aren’t looking to score antiques when they steal.”

“I bet not.”

“Okay, here’s the footage from tonight.” He stares at the screen while I hover behind him, massaging his shoulders. Slowly, his head tilts and he leans closer to the screen. “Um…”

“Yes?”

He turns to me and looks up. “You already know, right?”

“Know what, love?”

Kyson shakes his head, laughing softly. “It’s just shadows.”

“Ah, another vampire ability unveiled. We tend not to show up simply because our movements are so quick that cameras or untrained eyes can’t pick it up. Now, really focus.”

Determination takes over Kyson’s expression, the adorable crease in his brow tempting me to kiss him senseless again. “Oooh. I see us now.”

“Yep. So tomorrow when someone checks, they’ll only see shadows. If I were you, I would tell Neal you found a stash of money somewhere in the store. Maybe whoever it was changed their mind, or was just playing a prank.”

“He’ll suspect me.” Kyson swings around in the chair, his expression hard. “He already thinks I’m sabotaging him.”

“Then have someone else find it.” I kneel in front of him, my hands on his knees. Leave it on the front counter. Or put it in his office.”

Kyson nods as his expression softens. “Yeah, okay. It doesn’t really matter if he suspects me anyway. I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“You solved it. Unfortunately, you can’t explain that.”

“No. I like your idea. I’ll put it out where it’s obvious so someone will find it in the morning before I even get here.”

“Excellent idea.”

When we return home, I tell Kyson I have to let Yves know what happened.

“Am I not allowed to come with you?”

“You want to?”

He nods. “Yeah. I want…” He shrugs. “Oh. Maybe it’s not okay that you turned me?”

I chuckle. “Yves already knows without me saying a word.”

“Really?”

“He knows my thoughts and emotions sometimes before I know them myself. It was a talk with Yves that made me see what was happening between us.” I pull him into my arms. “I’d love to properly introduce you.”

He nods happily, brushing his face into my beard. “I’d like that too.”

“Come on then.”

We finish the short walk to Yves’s unit, and I’m a little surprised when he doesn’t answer the door, but Viper does.

“Hey, Thorn,” she says, glancing and smiling warmly at Kyson. “Not a good time.”
