Page 89 of Thorn Evermore
In a flash I’m on him, tearing his throat open. His blood fills my mouth as his screams soothe something inside me. He pushes at me, his struggle delighting the beast inside me. Once I’ve had my fill, I step back, gazing at his crumpled and bloodied body.
It’s finally over.
“Kyson! Wake up, sweetheart.”
“Fuck!” I sit up straight, gasping for air. Thorn immediately wraps his arms around me.
“What’s wrong, love?”
I look around the room, panicked, but slowly realize I’m safely in Thorn’s bedroom. “It was a dream.”
He brushes my hair from my forehead. “You were thrashing wildly. I couldn’t wake you. Were you being attacked in your dream?”
“No. I… I attacked Neal. I made him apologize to me and then I tore his throat out.”
The maniacal grin spreading on Thorn’s face is not what I was expecting. “Did you now?”
“What the fuck, Thorn. Do I want to kill him?”
“Part of you certainly does.” His hands slide down my shoulders. “Mm, I bet it was sexy as fuck.”
A laugh bubbles out of me. “Thorn. This is turning you on?”
“Not your distress, darling, but the idea of you tearing that miserable mortal apart is delightful. Shall we go now?”
“Go?”
“To his house. We could sneak into his bedroom and tear him to shreds.”
I start to object, but some other part of me nearly purrs from the idea. Whoa. “Thorn?”
He clicks his teeth. “Relax, love. I know this is new for you. Neal hurt you and that part of you very much wants revenge. Your vampire brought it out, but you are in control of your actions. Mostly.”
“Mostly?”
“Well, you should be careful. In the beginning it’s difficult to fight the bloodlust.” He kisses my forehead. “But you have me. I won’t let you do things that are too dangerous.”
“Are you telling me I might lose control and actually attack him?”
Thorn looks like he’s deep in thought for a second. “Yes.”
“Well, shit. I work with him. What if I attack in front of people? What if Iattack, period?”
“Hmm, yes, that is a potential problem.” He wraps his arms around me, pulling me back down into bed. “I’ll need to get advice. None of our other mates have kept normal jobs after being turned, but Justice does work with his former cult members.”
“What now?”
“Long story.” He chuckles. “But he’s around mortals a lot. Maybe he and Eros will have advice.”
I nod, rubbing my face into his hairy chest. “I love my job, Thorn.”
“I know, baby. We’ll figure it out. We could just kill Neal though. Problem solved.”
“I don’t actually want to kill him.” My chest tightens and Iclear my throat. “Um, okay well part of me doesn’t think we should.”
“That’s your lingering humanity speaking. It gets easier,” Thorn says, his voice softening. He drags his tongue up my cheek. “All the gods, you intoxicate me. Your scent right now is beyond seductive.”
“Why?”
