“You didn’t hear that they were screaming and begging for their mothers?” Darcy asked.
He tensed up. This time, he said it. “What?”
Darcy chuckled. “Yeah, they were begging for their mothers. They struggled all night. Once it was over, they took off into the woods, and enjoyed that part. But the whole new experience thing was too much for them. I think your dad was called or something like that.”
“I had no idea. They told me it was awesome.”
“After the whole transition, that might have been the awesome part, but no one loves their first time, Joe. It’s hard and it’s painful.”
He still hadn’t let her go, and she loved how good it felt to have his arms around her, and of course on her ass. Joe was still aroused, and she happened to like that as well.
“I had no idea. It was one of the reasons I left,” Joe said.
“Why?”
“Because I thought I needed to be able to handle it better. I cried. It hurt like hell. Worse than hell. I didn’t think it would ever be over.”
“Joe, everyone cries their first time. You should ask your dad. I know he’s been called to some new transitioners to help guide them.”
“Why?” Joe asked. “Why are we like this?”
“Because it’s new. You know, it’s your body breaking as you accept the call of your wolf and the full moon. Once you embrace it and your wolf, it’s a magical thing, but you’ve got to get to that stage to start with. Some people don’t.” She shrugged.
“I’m so pleased I came back home.”
Darcy laughed. “I do believe your friends now have it under control, but it took them a couple of years, and I do think your dad even had to be called to one of their transitions as they were being stubborn.”
She loved the smile on Joe’s face and she wasn’t quite sure of the cause, but she knew she wanted to keep it there.
“You do know that the trick is to accept your wolf, don’t you?” she asked.
“What do you mean?”
“The wolf is part of who you are, part of your soul, and the moment you accept him or her, then everything becomes smooth.”
“Is that what you did?” he asked.
She nodded. “The first transition was awful, but then the next one got easier, and I found myself communicating with my wolf a lot more, and it made life easier. It was simple.”
“You’re amazing.”
This did make her laugh. “No, I’m not.”
“Yeah, you are, and you’re going to make a heck of an alpha’s wife one day.”
Chapter Four
The last thing Joe wanted was a party, but it would seem his parents didn’t listen, because he looked around the main town square and saw that a party had indeed been held in his honor.
“Look at my boy,” Wade said, grabbing his head and holding him close.
“It’s so good to have you back,” Ryan said, slapping him on the back.
He wriggled out of Wade’s hold.
“Yeah, yeah, so you both say.”
“You know what I’m thinking?” Wade asked.
