“She doesn’t want you to know.”

I shove his shoulders, walk out of the room and slam close the door to the restroom.

Chapter Four

Melanie

I’ve watched him. I’ve had my girls watch him.

None of us have ever seen Jaiden with a girl. Talking to himself, yeah. Getting into fights, yes. He punched a teacher the other day for asking him how he was doing. I had to cover his ass with my parents when he came home late from detention.

Jaiden stared daggers at me, and I gave it right back. I might hate that fucker, but he’s still my brother.

Today isnotthat day. I’m tired of his bullshit attitude when all I do is try to be there for his sorry ass. The walk home is much quieter today. Fridays are like this. Some of the kids ditch to have a longer weekend, while others head out to wherever they’re going early.Me?I’m walking home to an empty house.

A growl has me turning around. There’s nothing. The growl comes again, and I quickly creep towards the noise. It kind of sounds like—

There’s a grunt that follows, and then silence. Something inside is telling me I need to see, even though my logical mind is telling me I’m a fool right now. I peek around the back of someone’s garage in an alleyway and my eyes bulge.

Jaiden has his hand around another guy’s neck and they’re devouring each other’s face. It looks so hot and heavy; they must have been doing this for some time. I should go. I can’t look away. The way Jaiden thrusts his hips against the smaller guy. Jaiden dominates the kiss, and his free hand is rubbing the outside of his partner’s pants that are clearly tented.

I don’t realize my own fingers are playing between my legs until it’s too late and I climax with a suppressed whimper.

“The fuck?”

I turn and run. There’re only about five blocks left till I get to the house. I push myself to go as fast as I can without turning around. My body slams into the front door and my hands are shaking, trying to find the right key to unlock the stupid knob. The jingling is getting on my nerves and my adrenaline is amped up high as I kick the door close and run up the stairs. Halfway up, the crash of the door opening makes me almost miss a step.

I turn and find Jaiden’s eyes on me, his chest heaving. He’s taken off his hoodie and his hair fall into his eyes in an ominous way, cloaking the darkness exuding from his eyes.

My heart is still beating out of my chest as I watch him step forward until he reaches the bottom of the stairs. I swallow and blink a few times. What the hell is happening right now? There’s a glint in Jaiden’s eyes, and it freaks me out.

He takes one step up and I take one step back. The only thing keeping me upright is one hand on the rail and the other against the wall for balance.

“You planned that, didn't you?” Jaiden accuses.

“W-what?”

“He was always suspicious of you and now I see why.”

“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t even know that guy.”

We’re continuing this strange dance of him climbing steps and me crawling backward.

“That’s what hesaidyou would say.”

I turn and run up the last three steps. His footsteps pound after me and I just make it through the bedroom door before he tackles me on the ground, slamming my chin on the carpet.

“Jaiden!”

“Stop calling me that!”

“You’re crazy! Get off me!” I’m able to turn halfway, but my curls cover my eyes. I’m kicking and struggling, trying to knee him in the balls, but Jaiden’s lithe body is too strong for me.

“He should fucking hate you! You need to get out of our mind. I’m tired of seeing your fucking face every time we close our eyes!”

“Jaiden!”

He growls and it’s nothing like I’ve heard before. Something is off and my body stills in panic and self-preservation. Instincts kick in. Prey, caught by a predator awaiting its’ death sentence.
