“Fuck,” was all I could say. My chest heaved after all of my exertion.

Several more minutes passed before either of us could sit up. “Well, Elliot was right, we are immune to the poison that’s in the venom, but not the power of its potency. I’ve been horny before, but that was maddening. And it was just a tiny amount. It may not kill us, but it can still render us incapacitated with lust.”

“Do you think if we inject ourselves with the cure, that it will stop the sensation?” Eli asked.

“Maybe, but we need to have a better plan than that. We’re going to have to condition ourselves to ignore the lust and remain focused,” I said.

“Through pain?” Eli asked.

I shrugged. That’s something we need to test. I’ll leave that to my trainers to figure it out. For now, we’ll stick with the plan of avoiding getting bitten by anyone.”

“I think we should test to see if the cure can nullify the venom,” Eli suggested.

“What if it doesn’t? What if it just makes me hornier? We can’t afford to waste more time fucking it out of our system,” I said.

Eli looked at the clock and snorted. “Yeah, you’re right. Think they’ll be pissed? We’ve been fucking for almost two hours.”

I shrugged. “They’ll get over it once they find out dragon venom can’t kill us anymore.”

He nodded and raked his fingers through my hair. “You think the pack will be okay with it?”

I frowned. “What do you mean?”

He shrugged. “I mean, I’m all for any advantage we can get. But I know how wolves talk about wolves like Josef, who have all these extra powers.”

I nodded now, understanding what my mate was getting at. “Well, there's not anything I can do about it now, anyway. And I was a wolf like that. Felt it was an abomination to be more than just what we were. But I’d be lying to myself to pretend like it didn’t matter. I watched damn near my entire pack be decimated by dragons over two hundred years ago. Had we been immune to dragon venom then, who knows what would have happened?” I shrugged. “We’d probably still be in London.”

Elijah smirked. “Then we would have never met.”

I wrapped my arm around him and slapped his naked ass. “Took me over four centuries, but I found you.”

Elijah tilted his head. “Weeelll, technically, Théoden found me.”

I rolled my eyes. “See, this is why I don’t bother trying to be romantic with you.”

He laughed and I smiled. “Getting back to what you were saying, we need any advantage we can get. Sure, having a strong alliance with Kendrick is paramount, but if we were as powerful as Josef’s pack, we could handle our own. I think being able to do that is more important to the pack.” I saw a flash of bright light on my cell phone screen and heard the notification chime. I reached over, picked it up, and checked it. “Fuck, Théoden.”

Elijah groaned. “He’s going to be pissed we’re not there yet.”

I nodded, then held up a finger as I dialed him back. He answered right away.

“Where are you?” Théoden asked, bypassing all pleasantries.

“I thought you could sense where I was at all times,” I shot back.

“I’m not in the mood for your sarcasm, Deacon.”

“We’ll be there as soon as we can,” I said.

“I specifically told you to be here in two hours,” he stated.

I’d been fucking Elijah for two hours with not one regret. “Yeah, I know, but I had to do something important first and gather my wolves. We’ll be there before sunrise for sure.”

“I’m sure you’ve spoken with Elliot,” he speculated.

“I did, of course I did. After you pulled your fucking stunt, I had to let him know about it. You are one of his dragon Knights, after all, and took such a liberty over one of his allies. I was certain he’d want to hear about it,” I said, and I couldn’t hide my smirk, because I could imagine the expression on Théoden’s face. He may have gotten what he wanted out of me this time, but never again. I was done with him and Ara.

“In any case, I expect to have you here, upholding your end of our alliance within the next two hours, or I will be forced to take more liberties and damn the consequences,” Théoden warned.
