I rolled my eyes. “Yes, yes, I'm on my way.” I ended the call. “Asshole.”
“That he is, but at least he can’t do anything more to us,” Eli stated.
I sighed and rose from the bed, stretching. “I’d never let my guard down around that man. And you shouldn’t either.”
“I won’t. As for our pack, let’s address them and get them ready,” Elijah said.
“Let’s shower first,” I kissed him, then rose from the bed. He joined me and we cleaned up quickly, got dressed, then left the bedroom and made our way to the backyard where at least three hundred wolves had gathered. “How much do they know?” I asked Eli.
“I just told them we had an emergency and for everyone who could do so, to convene here,” Eli said.
I nodded and stood in front of our pack with my mate by my side. “I’ve called you here because I will be sending a hundred of you to help Ara defend his territory per our alliance. I’m sure you can all sense something different within you.”
“Yeah, it feels odd, Alpha. What happened?” my eldest son and Consigliere, Drake, asked.
“Are you alright, my love?” Charlene asked.
I nodded. “I’m sure you all sense that Théoden was here. Well, he gave me a brand that linked me to Kendrick,” I said and immediately, the pack erupted in the curses and scowls.
“Shut the fuck up and listen,” Elijah snapped and the pack was silenced just as quickly.
I winked at my mate. He took his role seriously and now that he knew every dirty little secret I had, I felt closer to him than ever before. There wasn’t anything we couldn’t handle as long as we did it together. That was the power of the mating bond.
“By taking the brand, I’ve given us an advantage against dragon venom. We are now immune to it,” I said. It was best to claim that I accepted the brand, rather than how it really went down with Théoden forcing it on me.
There were murmurs and looks of awe among those of my pack.
“Elijah and I have already tested this, which is why we are two hours late. Though it didn’t kill or sicken me, it did render me horny out of my damn mind. I didn’t come back to my senses until I was well fucked. There has to be a way to control this sensation, but I’m not sure we have the time to figure it out. But I’d much rather my pack be horny than dead by dragon venom.”
“Also, by accepting Kendrick’s brand, he has strengthened the alliance they share,” Eli said.
“So, we don’t have to worry about dragon venom anymore? What about their fire, Alpha?” asked Hector, one my Beta Capos.
“Fire is still a problem, which is why you will be paired with Kendrick’s dragons. They will be giving you added protection as we fight. Elijah will remain here, and I will go to fulfill the agreement. Afterward, we may need to renegotiate. For now, Beta Capos choose who among you will join me and pick a hundred wolves, those who can handle their own. The rest will remain here. We leave in thirty minutes,” I said. “Any questions?”
“What can you tell us about our enemy, Alpha?” asked Barrett, one of my top trainers.
“Well, according to the intel Théoden gave me, they’re vampires but with extra abilities. They are immune to fire and the sun. They can create fire like dragons and can fly and have dual venoms,” I said.
“Jesus fucking Christ on a cross,” Dane hissed, then ran his fingers through his hair. “Can silver still hurt these motherfuckers?”
I nodded. “From what I know of, yes. Silver, decapitation, rip out their hearts, but watch out for all of that other shit and their speed.”
“What do we do if we get bitten, Boss?” one of my soldiers asked. “I’m not looking forward to getting killed because I was trying to bust a nut too hard.”
“I’m not sure if pain will be a solution, but if you are bitten, try that. I wish we had more time to figure all of this out, but we have to make it to New Haven in order to coordinate our plan of attack with the others.”
“Do we bring weapons, Alpha?” asked one of my Capos.
I looked at Eli, and the expression in his eyes told me not to resort to using the weapons I was used to. I turned back to my pack. “Because these vampires are immune to our venom, we will need to bring silver daggers, arrows, and swords.”
“What about our guns and grenades, Alpha?” asked a soldier.
I shook my head. “We will be fighting alongside dragons and other wolves. It’s one thing when we’re defending our own territory. But we have to honor the tradition of the challenge in this instance. Also, we can’t risk friendly fire. Those grenades especially are last resort weapons and by using them, we may be handing the victory over to the vampires, who don’t need to breathe,” I said. To be honest, I’d be all for using guns with silver nitrate bullets. In my experience, they got the job done faster and efficiently. But Kendrick, Théoden, and Josef were traditionalists. And apparently, so was this Alexander. If I wanted to be their equal, I had to fight like one.
“You heard the Alphas, get your fucking shit together. We need to figure out who’s going,” Drake said. “I can take it from here, dad.”
I nodded and walked back inside to get myself ready. Elijah was right there, watching me pick out my weapons. I’d chosen two swords made of silver with liquid silver hidden in the blade. Totally acceptable in battle. Why supes frowned on modern weaponry like guns, I’d never understand. Perhaps they felt it was too much of an advantage. Whatever.
