I watched as he ripped a vampire’s head from his body with his bare hands, then punched a hole in another, snatching his heart. Every vampire that dared come at him met their end. He also had a sword made of dragon bone that he was lethal as fuck with. Damn, I wanted one of those swords. It was just smart on my part to stay very close to him. On top of that, dragons were down here and they were putting a hurting on the vampires too. I think the biggest advantage we had was that most of the vampires were young. I sensed that much as I was fighting. They weren’t as fast or strong as Marco and Théoden.

Another vampire charged at me, teeth bared, claws outstretched. I snarled at him and dodged his attack and at the same time, sliced my claws across his stomach, spilling his insides. He cried out and went down to both knees. I then swung my sword, severing his head. Before he could fall to the floor, I kicked it in the direction of another vampire coming my way. I used his stunned reaction to advance, doing the same to him.

“Impressive, wolf,” I heard Ara say to me. “Ahh, my son.”

I turned to see Théoden racing through the tunnel, slicing through vampires as he approached. He raced past me to stand before his sire.

“Father, are you all right?” he asked Ara.

Ara nodded, then caressed Théoden’s face. “They’re coming in from other entrances,” he said. “Are the sanctuaries holding up?”

Théoden nodded. “At least one that I know of is still secure. Tylendel and my sons are there, he needed to recharge after using hisPurefire.”

Ara nodded. “I’ve only seen Knights use that fire once, back when I helped Telias save his territory.”

“It was… remarkable,” Théoden said breathlessly as if he was still in awe.

“It is. How does it look above ground?” Ara asked.

Théoden shook his head. “As if there is no end in sight,” he said.

Ara frowned. “There’ll be an end.”

“Preferably, not ours,” I said and shook the blood of the vampires from my hand. Both turned to me and I shrugged. “I need to call Elijah. Do you have a cell I can use?” I asked Théoden, as my cell was left in the car.

“It was broken during the battle,” Théoden said.

“Here,” Ara handed me his. It had bars, so I dialed Elijah.

My concern spiked when he didn’t answer, but I had to hang up. “Do you think he would have attacked all of the supes in Odin Colony?” I asked and handed Ara back his cell.

Ara nodded. “Most certainly those he knows have an alliance with me. I assume Kendrick is facing his own battle.”

“I know that Josef is, because Dante told me,” Théoden said.

I could still sense Elijah was alive, so I held onto hope that he would remain that way. I hated that I wasn’t there to keep him safe. Fucking vampires! God, I loathed this. I roared and punched the wall, leaving a hole in place of my fist.

“Feel better?” Théoden asked me.

I turned to him, growling. “My mate could be in danger. No, Théoden, I don’t fucking feel better,” I snapped.

He walked over to me, grabbing the back of my neck. “Stay focused, Deacon, or you won’t live to see him again.”

I swallowed as I glared at him. “Remember this day, vampire. Of what I sacrificed to help you. At least fifty of my wolves are dead. We both know you wouldn’t have done the same for me.”

“You’re right, Deacon,” Théoden said. “I did abandon you that night. So, to make us square, I owe you a favor. Just one.”

“And if I survive this battle, I’ll surely cash it in,” I said.

“I'm sure you will.” Théoden released me then and returned to Ara.

The sound of more vampires coming through the maze of tunnels was echoing off the walls and I growled in rage. My eyes, I knew, were glowing with the fury that coursed through me. Every muscle was coiled and ready to be unleashed and I did as soon as I saw them. I rushed into the crowd, slashing and slicing limbs and torsos like a man insane. But I knew what I was doing, dodging their attacks, and it helped to have Théoden and Ara beside me fighting just as furiously.

“More are coming,” I yelled as I found myself moving backward as more vampires came through the opening. Once again, the tunnel was filled with them and we fought in the tight space. At least they couldn’t fly overhead, that was an advantage, I supposed. So many were overtaking us, one grabbed my hand, stopping me from using my sword. He bit me and I felt his venom go straight to my cock.

“Ahhhh fuck!” I gasped and shook with pleasure. I couldn’t do anything as he reared back to punch me. He was snatched back from me and I collapsed to the floor, quaking as my orgasm flowed through me. Fucking hell, that was a debilitating attack. I looked up to see Théoden sinking his fangs into the man, delivering the same attack the vampire had done to me. Théoden yanked his head back, blood squirted from the gash he’d made in the vampire’s throat. He then tossed the vampire into the wall, cracking the cement. I watched in awe as Théoden punched the vampire through his back, then pulled his hand out, the vampire’s bloody heart in his palm.

“Focus, Deacon, or you’ll be dead,” Théoden snapped.
