“You’ll be more impressed when I’m inside you.”

Oh, I had zero doubts about that. I finally dragged my gaze up his chest, pausing briefly on his lips before stopping as I stared into his hungry gaze.

Dark eyes burned with amber flickers as our eyes stayed locked. “You’ve got no idea, Gorgeous.”

“About?” I asked with a whisper.

“How deep I’m gonna fuck you.” His hand slid across my neck and into my hair, pulling my head back by the braids for better access as his lips pressed to the sensitive skin.

I would have fallen backward if I hadn’t had a counter to hold me up. “Mammoth.”

“You’ll know exactly why I have that road name soon.”

I should be insulted. Annoyed. Disgusted.

I wasn’t. With him, I felt a depth of connection that scared the shit out of me. Something I never felt with anyone, even Jacob’s father, and I once thought he would be the love of my life.

“You scare me,” I admitted, “because I want you more than I need to push you away.”

A frown creased the skin between his eyes. “Explain.”

“There’s so much you don’t know about me.”

“Babe, there’s a whole lifetime to learn about each other, but what can’t be faked or forced is what we feel. This growing need inside me matches the one inside you. We can only fight it for so long.”

Maybe. Ignorance wasn’t always bliss, though. The past had a way of fucking with the present. I couldn’t hide forever, and if I gave in to this big biker, he would become involved in a dangerous game. A murderer was out there, hunting me down, and I couldn’t pursue a relationship with Mammoth when I didn’t know how long I would be staying in Tonopah.

“You’re pulling away,” he rasped, releasing me. “I can feel it.”

“I have to protect myself and my son.”

“But not from me.”

“No,” I reluctantly agreed.

“You need to confide in someone, Rowen. If not me, then Heather. You’re trying to struggle through shit on your own. It doesn’t have to be like that.”

“Mammoth.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Gorgeous. I’ve got all the time in the world to prove it to you.”

My heart surged with hope. “Okay.”

He cleared his throat. “Show me how to make that dressing.”

We finished lunch, ate, and enjoyed a couple of hours together before he left.

At the door, he dropped his chin and kissed the top of my head. “I’ll be seeing you soon. If you need anything, text. You want to hear my voice? Call.” He flashed a panty-melting grin. “Thanks for lunch.”

“You’re welcome.”

He walked out, and I tried not to stare at his ass in his jeans. The denim molded his thick thighs and hugged his body, stretching around the muscles. It was a sin to have an ass that fucking perfect.

Mammoth paused as he threw a leg over the seat of his Harley and sat on the leather. “There’s a cookout tomorrow. I want to bring you and Jacob.”

“Alright.”

“I’ll be over about noon.”
