“Jesus. Fuck.” He sounded more awake now with the news. “I’m sending Rael, Wraith, and Exorcist.”

“Good. I’ll be out front.”

The call ended, and I dropped to my knees, holding out my hand. “Is it okay if I keep watch with you?”

She nodded.

“Can I hold your hand?”

Another nod. Her cold hand shot out this time, and I cringed as I realized she didn’t have enough clothes on. She wore a tank and pajama bottoms. That was it. The temperature had dropped to nearly forty degrees. She was fucking freezing.

I slipped my arms around her and managed to wrap her in my embrace as I stood and brought her to the porch swing, covering her with the blanket as I unfolded the one she kept there. I balanced her on my lap as I sat. She still clutched the knife, and I knew I couldn’t take it from her yet. She’d freak the fuck out.

I knew Rowen had been through some shit. I tried to give her time, but that was done now. I had to know what was going on in order to help her. Tonight proved she held onto a burden she couldn’t handle alone.

The heavy roar of several motorcycles signaled that Rael, Wraith, and Exorcist were almost here.

Rowen stiffened, and a whimper escaped as I tightened my hold around her.

“Those are my guys, Ro. My club brothers.”

“Good guys,” she whispered.

“That’s right, Gorgeous. Friends. Protectors.”

She sank against my chest as I watched the knife fall from her hand and clatter to the porch.

Fuck. At last. “I’ve got you,” I promised, bringing her close and hugging her body to mine. “You’re safe. Jacob is safe.”

“Safe,” she repeated.

Fuck. Sorrow mixed with worry as I slowly rocked her, waiting for my brothers to pull up. Agony pierced my chest as every fucked up thing I could conjure in my brain came up as a reason for her reaction. I had to snap out of it before my Reaper flipped his shit. He was close already, hovering and ready to unleash his fury.

I didn’t move when Rael, Wraith, and Exorcist joined us.

For once, Rael didn’t crack a joke or try to piss me off with some offensive remark. He swallowed when he saw Rowen. “She okay?”

“No,” I growled.

“Fuck,” he cursed, sliding a hand through his short hair. “What you need?”

“To get to the bottom of this. STAT.” I ticked my head toward the road. “Watch for trouble. I’m taking her inside.”

Rael nodded.

“I’ll stay with him,” Wraith announced.

Exorcist followed me inside and shut the door behind us. I walked into the living room, carrying Rowen and refusing to release her as I sat. She curled into me and trembled.

“Jesus,” Ex whispered.

My gaze met his, and for a split second, a feeling of helplessness flashed through me. It quickly left, followed by rage. I sucked in a breath, struggling to control my emotions.

“Hey, Rowen,” Ex greeted her, taking a seat beside us. “Mammoth is concerned about you. You think you could talk to us?”

She shook her head and pointed to the kitchen.

Exorcist lifted a brow. “Is there something in the kitchen?”
