When she called and invited us to a family dinner, I agreed we’d come. Then she let me know that Paul and his fiancée would be there as well. Sawyer tried to talk me out of it because he’s worried about it stressing me out. It isn’t often Paul shows up for family dinners, but maybe things will change now that he’s getting married.
“If Paul knows what’s good for him, he’ll keep his mouth in line.”
“And if he doesn’t?” I ask, not wanting another fight to break out.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
None of Sawyer’s anger toward Paul has lessened. If anything, he’s gotten more irritated. Whenever Paul’s name is mentioned, I can see the bitterness in his eyes. My husband is the sweetest man I’ve ever met, but clearly there’s another side to him. One that came out at the restaurant.
“Sawyer.” I grab his hand with both of mine and try to plead for him to be calm. The car rolls to a stop, and he turns to face me.
“He tried to ruin my fucking marriage. Not only that but he spoke about you like that in a room full of people. I won’t tolerate it.” My face heats thinking about him loudly talking about my virginal panties at the party. Why does Paul always have to be such a dick?
“Well, maybe everyone can make up tonight. Their wedding is days away,” I offer, and Sawyer only shakes his head. “I don’t get what Kelly sees in him. She’s so sweet. The two of them together confuse me.”
“When Paul is sober, he can put on a good act.”
“Is it terrible I want to tell her to run?” I confess.
“She has to know to some degree who he is.”
“I suppose.” I let out a breath. “Have you talked to Bruce?”
“I haven’t spoken to anyone since I found you.”
“Are you still working for him?”
“I honestly don’t know.” He shrugs and squeezes my hand. “Would it bother you if I didn’t?”
“No,” I blurt out a little too quickly. He lifts a brow, and I blush. “Sorry.”
Sawyer goes through the intersection and then pulls the car into an empty space against the curb.
“What are you doing?” I ask as he puts the car into park. Before I know what’s happening, he has my seat belt off and has pulled me over to straddle his lap.
“Have you been lying to me?” Sawyer gives me a stern look, but all it does is make me wiggle in his lap.
I can feel his hard cock against my panties, and I want to moan at the touch. We haven’t had sex since I’ve been back home, and I’m aching for it. We’ve done other things, but he’s been treating me like a delicate flower since everything happened. His big hands squeeze my ass, and then I feel him pop me. It makes me jump as a small squeal escapes.
“I’m not lying.”
“Okay, how about keeping shit from me?”
“You’re one to talk.” He gives my ass another small smack. “Okay, I hate your stupid job!” I blurt out, and a slow, sexy smile pulls at his lips.
“I only took that job because of you.”
“What?” I’m genuinely surprised by his answer.
“I like Bruce and all, but I don’t want to run his company. I thought you wanted me to. Family means a lot to you.”
God, I love this man, and I hate that I ever doubted him.
“Family does mean a lot to me. I want to be close to my parents, but our family means more.” I melt into him and press my lips to his.
“You like me at home.” It’s a statement because he knows it’s true, and I love the cocky smile that goes with it.
“Is that selfish of me?” I play with a button on his shirt, and he shakes his head.
