Iron nodded, a small smile pulling at his lips.

“What?” Amy asked, frowning at his look of amusement.

“You remind me of Ice. Nothing stops her from doing what needs to be done. I hope you will get the chance to meet her one day.”

“I will… Because we’re going to find her. We are going to find Ice, and the missing warriors and every single child that was taken. Then, we are going to kick some serious ass. If there is one thing I hate to the core, it's people who hurt kids.”

Iron grinned wide. “Just like Ice. Two hours, Amy. I will send Lace to fetch you at the cave. You will return to the compound to prepare, then we will leave. We still have many hours of sunlight, so we will cover a lot of ground before we will be forced to make camp.”

She nodded.

“I will have Lace take you to the cave in the transport. I will instruct him to wait in the clearing. Do you remember how to get back to it?”

She nodded. “Yes, I do. I know that forest pretty well.”

“Very well. Lace is waiting outside the door for you.”

She gave Iron a nod and turned to leave. Anger and determination filled her as she followed Lace to the transport they had used to get to the compound. She knew that Kisma and Maku would have no problem searching the desert, and with Emi and Tope’s help, they would be safe.

She tried not to think of the sweet little faces of the children she had played with at the orphanage being trapped in those horrid cages in the blistering heat.

She settled into the seat as Lace took his place by the controls. She studied the male for a moment. She couldn’t see any enhancements on his body, but he was in a long sleeve shirt and long pants.

“Lace?” she asked as the transport lifted into the air.

“Yes?” he asked, turning to look at her.

She opened her mouth to speak but closed it again. It was far too inappropriate to ask him something like that.

“Never mind,” She mumbled, sitting back in her seat.

“They are under my skin.” He said, turning to face the large window in front of him.

“What?”

“My enhancements. They are hidden under my skin.”

“I wasn’t… I mean.. I didn’t…”

He chuckled. “It's alright. I take no offence. Many wonder the same thing.”

“What are they… if you don’t mind me asking.”

“My entire skeletal structure is metal, as well as a few synthetic organs and upgrades in my brain.”

Amy’s mouth fell open. How the hell did someone survive something like that?

“Were you also part of the Arusian military?”

“Yes. I served under commander Iron. When he left, I decided to join him and Ice after my service was done.”

“Wow,” she mumbled, staring out of the tinted window in front of her.

“Where are you from, Amy? I have never seen your race before.”

“From Earth. My race is called human.”

When Lace didn’t answer, she glanced forward, but couldn’t see his face.
