“What's Zelos?”
“It's one of the planets in orbit around Raka. You can see it at night. It's not a pleasant place.”
“No. It’s a frozen wasteland with temperatures cold enough to freeze a man in hours.”
“And people live there?”
“Yes. Zelos. They live under the ice, in vast cities. They have a gift for creating technology that is sold to anyone willing to pay their price. But how does that lead us to the humans?” Cole spoke, reaching for Amy’s hand.
Amy didn’t miss the way Sena watched them with curious eyes.
“There is a small community of Zelos living in Mura. Lace and Roam went to speak to them. They said that word has spread that the Zelosian chancellor has been meeting with the Korok quite often recently. One of those visits included three unknown slaves being bartered for more of those components.”
“Oh, shit,” Amy whispered, her heart breaking at the idea of someone being sold off like some kind of object.
“Do we know if they are male or female humans?”
Iron shook his head. “No. Only that three of them were promised as payment for two hundred components. Delivery is set to be in three weeks at the fortress. Either the Korok have already given the humans to the Zelosians, or they are keeping them at the fortress until delivery.”
“Now we know where to look,” Lace said, giving Amy a reassuring smile.
“We can check the fortress now,” Amy said, getting to her feet. Before anyone could stop her, she had her hands gripped around the markings on her wrists and asked Kisma and Maku to see what they found.
“If they are at the fortress, we will need to go in with force. There is no sneaking in and taking three prisoners out without being noticed,” Lace said.
“Then we go in,” Cane replied, “We have something the Korok won’t be expecting.”
Iron grinned, meeting Ice’s smiling eyes.
“Indeed. It will take a few days to know if the humans are at the fortress, so I think for now, all of you need to train with our newest warriors.”
Amy smiled wide when she turned to see Emi and Tope come striding in from the balcony. Sena sucked in a sharp breath, while Roam stood slowly.
“So, it is true then,” Sena said, giving Amy a wide eyed look.
Amy went to the beasts, running a loving hand over their necks and placing a soft kiss to their heads. She turned back to the others, “Yes.”
“May I?” Sena asked, raising a hand in front of her.
“Why don’t you ask them?” Amy said, gesturing to the beasts at her side. Sena frowned, looking between them all.
Amy chuckled, flicked out a finger, and watched a thin black bracelet form around Sena and Roam’s wrists. If they were all going to work together, they needed to be able to communicate.
Tope pressed his head into her side, getting her attention.
“With your permission, Alpha, I would like to fight beside your mates.”
“You don’t need my permission, Tope. You are free to do whatever you want. I know that you and Emi are predators at heart, so go be what you were meant to be.”
Tope lowered his head to Amy, giving her a rub on her arm. Emi did the same before they strolled forward and introduced themselves to the rest of the team.
Chapter Twenty-Four
The next morning, after breakfast in bed with the two men she was quickly falling in love with, Cane and Cole left to do their duties. Amy took the time to have a long soak in the huge tub they had taken advantage of several times.
Once she was dressed and ready to leave, she made her way to the front door and paused. Nerves twisted in her gut at the thought of leaving her new home. This would be the first time she left, and she would have to do it alone.
Buck up, Amy, she thought, you can’t hide out here forever.
