Chapter 7

Love Blooms

Tank was glad that the guards were available and Missy had the extra fence help, really, he was. But they seemed to interested in his woman. They loved her food, of course who wouldn’t. Both of them watched her too much. His thought was look for enemies, don’t watch every move Missy made. She wasn’t there for them. The woman was his.

So, what if she wasn’t his mate yet. It wouldn’t be long if those attacks would just end. He’d been about to get lucky until they’d attacked. Now the guards were preventing any fun from happening. Tank had plans but they kept falling through. Now the weekend was almost over, and nothing would happen.

He’d be busy, but those guards would be there watching. How was that fair? One of them was around all the time. Tank just wanted to beat that alpha senseless. Why wouldn’t they leave Missy alone when there was no connection to the white wolves other than as friends. Sure, he knew different, but they didn’t.

Eventually, something would have to be done or he’d lose his woman. What would she do if he mated her? He was seriously thinking about it. It was unlikely his mate would be a bear anyway so that wouldn’t affect his choice. It was lunch time and Missy headed in to fix them something to eat.

“Are you two…you know?” The guard asked.

“Aren’t you Jim?” Tank asked.

“Yes, that’s me.”

“She’s mine unless you want to fight for her.”

“What’s she say?” Jim asked.

“She’s not committed, but she’s seeing me.”

“Okay, for now.”

That would do until he got her claimed. Jim would tell the other guy, Wolves didn’t like to mess with a bear especially for no good reason. They finished up the fence line they were on then went in. He took a deep sniff in the air. It was green bean, potato and ham soup. It had cooked a while in the crockpot and would be good. Hot rolls were sitting on the stove. Jim looked really hungry too. Building fence was a hell of a job. That was hard, physical work.

It was okay because Missy had a wonderful meal, and their plates were fixed. Jim and he were digging in as Missy ate more refinely. The food was amazing, and they wiped out a lot of it. “That’s wonderful, Missy. I’ve never had anything like it.” Jim praised.

“You ready for dessert? I’ve got a cherry dump cake.”

“I’d love it.” Jim assured.

“Thank you. That sounds great.” Tank replied.

It did and it smelled amazing. There was as much cherry filling as a pie might have with cake on top instead of pie crust on the bottom. Missy gave him his next. Once they were done, they left her there to clean up as they returned to get a lot of work done. With Jim and Missy helping, it almost got twice the work he could get done finished.

Missy made it out pretty fast and she moved their supplies in place for them saving them time. If she’d had to tractors with post drivers, they would have moved along even faster. She’d began moving her animals in place to the sections they’d completed fencing off. Soon, she might even buy more.

They got to work and a few hours later they’d finished another row of fence. Tank had to admit things were going well. The bad part was the weekend was over and no more fence would be done until the next weekend. Not that Missy didn’t have plenty to do. She’d work on the garden and all the usual things needed on a farm and hopefully find some time to finish her book.

She’d need to keep extra room for the guards she needed. It might not hurt with so much work to get done. Tank could easily get excited about getting the farm in shape even if it wasn’t his. Missy was his in his mind and doing this for her would make him happy. He could begin to see in his mind what this place could look like. Spring was coming and the garden would be amazing.

They could only work on the fence because the ground hadn’t frozen in a while. It still might. Once the fence was done, there was still brush hogging to do as well as many other things. Farming was a hard job. He wondered exactly what she would want to raise. They were nearly done for the day and Missy had left to finish supper. Would anything happen between them tonight?

“We done, Tank? I’m getting pretty hungry.” Jim observed.

“I bet you are. Let’s get this stuff put up.” He suggested.

Jim helped and everything went in the barn. “Can we go now?” Jim asked.

“Yes, let’s head out.”

Missy was ready for them and they all sat down. The other guard, Guy, met them so he could have his meal too. She took care of them and they were needed here so he didn’t resent them, much. Once they finished eating, Jim went to his room to relax and Guy did a walk around the property, and he helped Missy clean up.

“Want to watch a movie?” She asked.

“Sounds good.”
