His father nodded. “I shall accompany you. If you feel comfortable, I would like to enlighten everyone tomorrow morning. Your Mother will prepare breakfast and then we can talk about it.”
They both agreed before he stood up and left again.
Breaking the News
Nervous, Niev sat down at the table, Lyliann to her left and Blake to her right. Layla was sitting next to Michael while Alizia and Darron played outside. Blake held her hand and as soon as everyone had settled, before anyone could call the kids back inside Blake straightened his back.
“Before we start, Niev and I would like to announce something.” Everyone except Seth and Tanner looked worried, but curious. “While we visited Ann, Alpha Raymond gave us an offer to join his pack. He also offered that I take the alpha title as he doesn’t have an heir. We’ve accepted this offer and will leave for the Montanha Territory soon.”
Mayra’s face turned pale, her eyes widening. “No,” she gasped looking at Tanner as if she wanted him to protest too.
“I gave them my blessing and will leave with Blake tomorrow to help him and Alpha Raymond with their planning.”
Tears not only filled Mayra’s eyes, but Layla’s and Lyliann’s as well.
Lyliann took Niev’s hand in hers. “Are you sure?”
“Yes.” Though Niev was terrified she knew it was the right choice for them. “It won’t be easy, but it’s the right path for us.”
“Even with the twins coming so soon?” Layla asked.
“Because of it. I don’t want to have them here and then have to move all four of us. I want to leave before they come.”
“Oh Niev, this will be such a strain on you,” Mayra voiced.
“I know, but it would be a much bigger hassle to do it later on.”
“Father and I will make sure that our arrival is well prepared and will go smoothly.”
Mayra’s eyes shot to Tanner. “You knew about this?!”
“Niev and Blake came to me yesterday and informed me of their decision.” Before Mayra could retaliate, Tanner silenced her with a wave of his hand. “Blake and Niev have made their decision and I’ll do all in my power to make this transition for them as easy as possible. Blake and I will leave tomorrow evening for the Montanha Territory and there will be no further discussion.”
After Tanner’s announcement there was only silence. No one wanted to talk about the move at all. Most of the breakfast was eaten quietly, with only Alizia and Darron breaking it here and there with their laughter.
After breakfast, Niev tried to talk to Mayra, who was still pretty upset. She joined her in the kitchen and picked up a drying rag, taking the first wet dish.
“There is no need. You should sit down and rest.”
“You and I both know I can't do that. I think it’s physically impossible,” Niev said, amused.
It earned her a gentle but hesitant smile.
“I don’t want you to think that we are leaving because we don’t feel welcomed. We’re leaving because the Montanha Wolves need us, and Blake needs them. We love you all very much, but Selene has chosen this path for us just like she has guided us the past few months.”
Mayra pulled her hands out of the water pulling Niev into a tight, wet hug. “Oh Niev.”
“We’ll come visit and I would like you to come visit us around the due date. I couldn’t imagine giving birth without you around.”
“Of course, I’ll come.”
“That would mean the world to me.”
“I couldn’t let you go through this alone.”
They finished the dishes side-by-side. Mayra seemed much more relaxed. Layla and Lyliann stayed with them all morning long. Lyliann agreed to visit along with Mayra, while Layla wanted to stay behind to take care of Darron. Blake, Tanner, and Seth had retreated into the office.
Blake had offered for her to be part of the planning, but Niev had let him take over. She wouldn’t be of any help with her mind still unable to think properly. The thought of organizing everything overwhelmed her.
