Velora crooked her brow. “So, you do actually do things for fun?”

“Only if my work is done,” Isaiah chuckled.

Her lips twitched, but she quickly schooled her features. “I’m sure your father must be very disappointed. He thought all along he raised at least one of you right and the first thing you do as alpha is buy giant snow toys.”

Asher’s heart leapt. Though it was supposed to be an insult, it was the first thing they’d seen from her that wasn’t pure hatred.

“His face was priceless when he figured out it was me who ordered them,” Isaiah laughed. “It was better than actually riding them.”

“So who’s gonna do all the work now that you pulled your brother to the dark side?” she directed to Asher.

Fucking hell. After that morning, Asher had thought this day would be horrendous, but right now it felt like heaven. “I guess I’ll have to pick up the slack. Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea after all.”

The light chuckle she let out made his stomach flip as warmth spread through his extremities. He knew the bubble of happiness would pop far too soon but for a split second, this felt better than sex—at least sex with her.

‘Stop,’ Isaiah warned. ‘You don’t wanna run around with a hard-on, do you?’

No, he didn’t—no matter how good it felt. He returned his focus to Vel and their cute little bubble. “But I admit it felt good to corrupt him.”

Their eyes met and for the first time he saw… her. The woman she’d become—not the cold bitch she wanted them to see.

Asher hadn’t paid much attention to their surroundings, only looking up when she led them into a small clearing. The trees around were decorated with lanterns and the clearing was filled with stone and wooden seating arrangements. Everything seemed worn, as if it had been here for years. Some seemed new while others were covered in a layer of soft moss.

Vel searched the clearing, a smile forming when her gaze fell on Evelyne. She held her daughter in her arms while instructing some of the men to hang more lanterns. Vel quickly strode over to her.

“Oh no!” Evelyne called out. “Why are you here already? You’re not supposed to be here until it’s all set up.”

“Like it’s a big secret how it’s gonna look,” Vel laughed, pressing a kiss to the little girl’s cheek.

“But this is for you and if you’re here it means you want to help set it up.”

“Of course, I do.”

“I thought Rayan said he would keep you occupied.”

“He tried,” Vel laughed again and looked around. “But I’m here now. How about I guard the buffet?”

“Fine,” Evelyne relented. “But know that I don’t like this.”

“It’s noted, and disregarded.” Vel winked to show her playfulness.

She turned, but instead of going to the tables that seemed to be for the food, she led the twins to a small shack hidden just beyond the treeline. When she opened it, she revealed storage for more foldable tables.

“Ah, we’re being put to work,” Isaiah stated.

She only shrugged in response, grabbing one of the tables and heading back to the clearing. The twins grabbed the remaining four—two each—and followed their mate.

It felt good to be needed. There were plenty of men she could have asked, but she used them. He knew it was likely part of her revenge, but it didn’t matter what they were doing—he enjoyed having Vel by his side.

After a while, Beta Wayne approached with his daughter by his side. “You know she’d be cursing you out if she could, right? This was for you to enjoy, not to work.”

Vel waved him off. “She should know me better than that by now.”

He then turned to the twins. “My mate would like me to apologise. We don’t usually allow our guests to work for us, but it seems Velora has forgotten that.”

Vel only rolled her eyes.

“She didn’t ask. We offered,” Isaiah said, flipping the last table to stand on all fours.
