Page 13 of Craving Demons
Desperately curious, though just a bit worried that if I got closer I might truly explode, I entered the store.
A woman hurried up to me and stopped a bit abruptly. “Ah, yes, can I help you, sir?” She seemed confused. A man in construction clothes and a hard hat, covered in concrete dust, probably wasn’t their usual clientele.
She wasn’t the source of the aspect. That was clear.
“Ah… just looking around?” I said, trying to figure out what in Hel I was doing here. “To pick up something… for my… daughter.”
The woman perked up at that. “Oh, yes? A gift? How lovely. We get so few men in here. Do you need any assistance?”
“Ah, no, I’ll just look around for a bit, if that’s okay? I’ll call you if I need you.”
“Sure, my name is Denise.” She smiled and went away.
It didn’t take me long to find the daemon I was looking for. She was the only other person in the small shop… and she was drop-dead gorgeous.
At first, I assumed she was older, given her silvery hair, but when her face turned my way, I could see how youthful and smooth her features were. That made the silver-blond hair all the more striking. Her large eyes were of a similar hue, but with a tinge of blue, and she had a perfect face, with a slightly upturned nose and full blushing lips. The sheath dress that clung to her showed off all her six feet of perfection: full hips and bust and slender waist.
My cock swelled as my wolf growled.
He wanted to mate. Now!
I grunted at the urgency and pain as my need to release reached a painful degree. Desperate, I turned away and leaned against a wall for a moment, breathing through the pain and desire.
I could control myself. I’d been keeping the ravenous beast within me under control for over a millennium. If I could do that, I could get ahold of my body. I could manage to calm my raging hard-on and rampaging heart.
I heard a soft laugh behind me. “You look a little out of place in here.” The voice was soft and melodic, and as soon as I heard it, my beast calmed.
That was… new.
I turned around and there she was. She’d drawn closer, her features displaying a bit of shock.
“Oh…” she breathed, blinking at me.
I could almost read her thoughts from those wide silver-blue eyes: he’s a lot more handsome than just some gruff, construction worker. Yeah, I was literally a Norse God — or close enough to one — so I got that look a lot.
The look faded after a moment and she smiled. “What’re you looking for? Got a side gig doing drag? I don’t know if they have anything your size,” she teased.
I smiled.
The trouble was what in HelwasI doing in this store?
I’d told the clerk I was looking for something for my daughter. That was a lie. I did have a daughter, but she was over seven hundred years old and living in Sweden, working as a model. Still, that story would work for now.
“I’m looking for something for my daughter. How about you?” I asked. I wanted to know everything about this mystery woman. She was intoxicating and overwhelming with her aspect unveiled and blazing, but she’d also somehow managed to tame my wolf with a few words. No woman — mortal or immortal — had ever done that before.
Her smile grew and she seemed to glow with it. “Oh, truly? I’m also looking for some things for my daughter… and myself. I start a new job in a couple of days and need something nice to wear.”
The words were out before I could stop them. “You look gorgeous as you are.”
She blushed, a rosy hue on those pale cheeks and I nearly came then and there from her otherworldly beauty. But again, I kept myself in check… barely.
“You’re too kind, thank you,” she said demurely.
“I’m having a horrible time, though,” I lied. “I don’t know what she’d like. I could use a woman’s input.” I wanted to stay close to this woman for as long as I could.
“Why isn’t she shopping for herself?” the woman asked.
Excellent question. “She… doesn’t like shopping. She’s shy.”
