His tone led me to believe that maybe they might be planning to hurt me, maybe even torture me. Eagle gripped me by the upper arm but I jerked it away from him. “I can walk on my own,” I hissed.” His laughter rubbed me the wrong way. “This is kidnapping, you know.” I walked to the front door and stepped inside the room, all but gasping at the unexpected beauty of it.
Not beautiful, but whoever had designed the large bar area had done a decent job of keeping it manly. Lots of heavy, bulky wood, and biker décor that was a mixture of new and old. The floor was also wood, and the lights and bar top were copper. There were several halls leading off from the main room, I could only guess at where they led.
“So, where’s the basement?” I asked snarkily.
“Basement?” The man in front of me looked over my head at Eagle. There was a frown on his face.
I heard Eagle snicker. “There is no basement,” he said.
I turned enough to give him a glare, which only made him smile wider. “You’re a real jerk!”
He shrugged, unconcerned.
The other man laughed too, and pulled out a chair at one of the nearby tables. “Sit.”
I did.
“Name’s Wolfe.”
Wolfe. Eagle. Who named their kids that? I felt like I needed to introduce myself since he’d provided his name. “I’m Leona. And holding me here against my will is a crime.”
Wolfe ignored my comment. Eagle stood over us like a centurion with his arms crossed and legs parted. “We’re not going to hurt you, Leona. All we want to know is who was driving that car. Then you can go home, and we never have to see each other again.”
“That doesn’t work for me,” I said with more bravery than brains. “Unless you can guarantee that you won’t hurt him—”
“Jesus fuck, you’re like a broken record!” Eagle was clearly at the end of his patience with me. He pinned his angry eyes on Wolfe. “As Enforcer it’s my job to see that the club and brothers are protected. Which means this kind of situation is mine to deal with.”
I didn’t like the sound of that.
The two men shared a long look that seemed to communicate each other’s thoughts. I glanced back and forth between them in an effort to understand what they might be thinking. It was no use. I didn’t know them well enough.
Wolfe drew in a deep breath. “Lock her up somewhere and come back.”
I didn’t like the looks on either of their faces. Panicked, I jumped from my chair and made a mad dash for the door. I had no idea where I was going, just that I had to try to get out of there.
“Goddammit!” I heard Eagle swear. The sound of a chair being thrown out of the way and hitting the floor urged me to move faster.
When powerful arms wrapped around me I let out a scream and struggled for all I was worth. Hearing his grunts revealed that I was getting in my hits, but it wasn’t enough. Eagle was much bigger and stronger than I.
“You need help?”
I didn’t appreciate the amusement in Wolfe’s tone.
“I got her,” Eagle grunted, swinging me around and walking me toward one of the hallways.
I bumped and wiggled against his unyielding body. “Let me go!”
“Keep it up and you’ll feel my palm against your ass,” he grunted, easily keeping my feet inches off the floor as he walked us to a door.
I didn’t take time to digest his threat. The commotion caused enough noise that someone in a couple of the rooms opened their doors but then closed them again just as abruptly. “Help!”
His chest vibrated with silent laughter. “Yell all you want, darlin’. They’ll help me before they help you.”
I knew that I should just give them Ron’s name and let him deal with this, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. “You’ll pay for this!” I hissed, out of breath.
“I’m already paying for it,” he countered, his tone a little breathless too.
He opened a door and ushered us inside, slamming the door shut with a backward kick. I thought he’d let me go, but instead he walked over to the bed and tossed me onto it. I bounced, pushed my hair out of my face, and panted while glaring up at him. He stood like an angry God, arms crossed, legs braced apart, nostrils flaring, with some intense emotion causing his eyes to look like lightning bolts.
