“Shh, let me do something. Just turn around.” I reply, grinning back, watching as she’s doing as she’s told. Running the brush through her hair, I gently pull her head back and start braiding it. After I’m about halfway done, she whispers,

“When did you learn to braid, Sunshine?” Her tone full of curiosity.

“Hmm, that’s a secret for another day.” I quietly chuckle and she slaps my leg. Finishing up and tying the ends, I lean in and plant a long kiss on her shoulder.

“Come on Princess, let’s go make some coffee. We have a few things to talk about.” I murmur. Her brows furrow and the smile falls from her face.Fuck, I hate being the one to remove that smile I love so much.Crawling to the end of the bed, she gets off, reaching a hand out for me. Doing the same, I lace my fingers with hers and we walk downstairs. She goes up to the coffee maker to start it, then turns back to me with a questioning glance folding her arms over her chest.

“Don’t kill the messenger, first off. Last night you got another text. Now, before you say anything, I only looked at it because it kept going off. Wasn’t sure if it was important or anything. So here’s what we’re think–” I don’t even get to finish before she cuts in.

“First, I don’t care that you looked at my phone, but they sent another text, didn’t they? What did it say?” She inquires, seeming irritated already just as Reyes and Damien walk into the kitchen. Reyes hands her the phone and presses his lips to her forehead, causing her to blush.

Walking over, I pour her a cup of coffee and make it how I know she likes it before handing it to her. Throwing her phone down on the counter, she grabs the coffee and takes a couple of long pulls. Me and the guys share a knowing glance.

“Wanna hear our plan, Angel?” Damien coos in a soothing voice, rubbing her arms. Rolling her eyes, she takes another sip of coffee.

“Sure, please fill me in, because if not, I’m going on a stabbing spree.” She seethes, her attitude full force now.

“So we’re thinking, change out all the cameras and your codes, even to the gate. One of us will always be with you. I know that’s how it is now, but we will rotate out.” I declare, and she just looks at me like I’m insane.

“Y’all have businesses to run and jobs of your own. I don’t need a babysitter.” She retorts and I would expect nothing less from her.

“We aren’t babysitting you. You act like we don’t want to spend time with you anyways, this will just give us that time.” Reyes laughs and she just rolls her eyes again. Finishing her coffee, she sets the cup in the sink.

“Whatever, I’m going to get dressed. Whoever has babysitting duty first better be ready in ten minutes.” She huffs in annoyance and walks off. We all let out a full belly laugh.

“I’ll stay here and work on her cameras and stuff today, then go to the shop and catch up.” I state, pulling out my phone and ordering what I need.

“I’ll go to Osiris first. I got a few cars that need to be finished up.” Damien quips, then walks out of the room.

“I’ll go to the gym and help her train, then we can come to the shop unless Eddie has jobs for her. I’ll fill him and Zeke in on our plan while we’re there.” Reyes raps out, still drinking his coffee.

“Okay brother, I just ordered the shit I need and it should be here by lunch. I’ll have to go get my laptop in order to program it and set up the extra firewalls. No one gets these codes but her immediate contacts, and don’t let her text the code either. For all we know, he’s watching her phone too.” I inform, the command thick in my tone. He just nods in reply, finishing up as he walks out too.Let the motherfucking shitshow begin.

Chapter twenty-six

Raven

Walking into Orpheus, Eddie and Naomi greet me at the door.

“Morning, bitch.” Naomi cheers, grabbing me and wrapping her arms around me for a hug.

“Morning, babe.” I mock back. I’ll never understand how people are so cheerful in the mornings, it’s gross. I can’t be cheery until noon, or later. Just depends on the day.

“Morning kiddo. Reyes.” Eddie greets us both, a smile plastered on his face. This man can pull a smile from anyone, even me on my darkest days. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I love him so much.

“Morning, old man. You ready to get started, I need to punch something or I’ll end up punching someone.” I joke, laughing as I skip off to the ring to start wrapping my hands.

Reyes and Eddie both climb through the ropes. Arching a brow, I look between them both.

“Reyes said you got another text, figured you’d have too much energy, so why not fight us both today? Let off some steam?”Eddie quips with a shit eating grin on his face.Their funeral.Shrugging, I get in position. Eddie comes at me first with a couple jabs, then a hook. Not paying any attention, Reyes comes up behind me and puts me in a chokehold.

“Come on Baby Girl. Don’t let me take you down. Unless maybe you want everyone here to see you being pinned down for a different reason?” He whispers low in my ear, nipping it as he pulls away. Feeling my face heat, I try to elbow him in the ribs. Expecting it, he manages to get away from my assault. Squeezing a little tighter and feeling my air being cut off, I let my body fall limp. Falling for it, his hold loosens and I turn, punching him right in the gut. Jutting my leg out and tripping him, he falls, I move quickly to straddle him. I lean down and get close to his face,

“How’s that for being pinned down?” I whisper, my voice full of lust and sarcasm. Rolling off him and standing up, Eddie is full on laughing.

“Damn kiddo, you are giving these guys a run for their money aren’t you?” He jokes and I begin laughing with him.

Huffing, Reyes stands up. “Yeah, yeah. Laugh it up. Payback will suck for you Baby Girl. And Eddie, don’t encourage her.” Reyes replies, his voice dripping with all the unsaid promises as he starts to laugh with us.
