Page 64 of From Me to You
“Not at all, Aunty M. Go enjoy yourself. You work too hard.” I smiled at her, mouthing. ‘I love you.’
She was on me in a second and hugged me tight. “I love you so much, Evy.” Her eyes almost welled with tears.
“You girls are too emotional,” Jay commented.
Again, men do not know when to stop!
Aunty M turned to him and said, “Take good care of our girl.”
“I will, forever,” he promised with a smile on his face.
“Evy, Kung Pao chicken for you, right?” Jay asked, and that was exactly what I wanted, but I refused to relent to him. We were currently settled on the couch while Aunty M was getting a drink.
“No, I want Pad Thai,” I demanded.
“Sweetheart, but that’s Thai,” he said with a frown on his face.
“I know.” I huffed and looked up to see him gazing at me with a sly smile like he knew exactly what I was doing. He did know, but I didn’t care.
“Em, do you want a drink? Evy brought all this strawberry milk for you,” Aunty M called out from the kitchen.
Way to go, Aunty M.Now was not the time to inform him that I had a carton full of his favorite drink in my fridge.
Jay grinned, and his eyes twinkled with mirth.
“Yes, Marie, thank you.”
I sighed. This was going to be a long night.
About an hour later, Aunty M had left, and our food arrived. I picked at my Pad Thai while Jay slurped on his third strawberry milk.
“How long are you going to give me the silent treatment?”
“Forever,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“But you are my favorite person in the whole wide world.”
I had to control myself to not smile at that.
He groaned in defeat.
I sighed. I really wanted Kung Pao chicken.
Jay went up and walked to the kitchen. He came back with another carton box in his hands.
I looked at him, confused, as he took his place beside me on the floor.
“Give me that. I know you wouldn’t eat it. I got Kung Pao for you.”
I kept my face blank as I took it from him and mumbled thanks. But my insides were on a whole different page. My sweet boy, I could never stay mad at him for long. But I still hated it when he teased me.
We finally cleaned up after we ate and started at the TV, though none of us were actually watching what was going on in the second episode of ‘The 100’ season two.
The air around us thickened.
Jay suddenly turned and hugged me from the side, locking me in.
“I hate it when you don’t talk to me,” he whispered.
