Logan will be the first girlfriend that is introduced to my family. My mom has been begging us all to settle down and find someone because she doesn’t want to be eighty and have grandkids. She won’t be getting any from me and Logan for a while though. I want kids one day, but I want to live life with Logan before we even think about kids, and I have a feeling she feels the same.

Looking outside, Logan and Noah are laughing so hard that I see her wipe at her eyes.

“Okay, he’s here,” Mom says.

“So, Gray, I hear you’ve got a girlfriend.” Dad’s deep voice filters through the speaker. He is more relaxed when it comes to talking about anything relating to relationships or our future. He just wants us to be happy. Mom does, too, but she gets overly excited.

I spend twenty minutes filling them in on the past few weeks. I don’t go into depth about my suspicions about Logan’s past, but I do let them know that she takes a moment to get used to new environments.

“Well, I’m glad she made you wait. Sounds like a very smart girl. I know it was an accident, but she showed you that you need to slow down and make sure she’s taken care of.” Mom almost sounds mad at me.

“I know, Mom. Trust me, I fucking know.”

“Well, I’m happy for you, son. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you found your light,” Dad says.

Chills run up my spine. My parents have always said when you find the one it will be like the lights have turned on for the first time. I thought they were crazy but now I think they might be right.

“I have only known her for a few weeks," I argue.

But I know they’re right. Logan has been my light since the moment I met her.

I hear my father let out a deep breath. “Son. Time is a concept that measures the hours in a day. Not how long it takes to know you have found your person. It doesn’t matter if you have known Logan for two days or ten years, if she makes you feel like you can’t live or breathe without her, then she is your light.”

I stand in the doorway watching Logan as my dad tells me what I’ve known from day one. As if she can sense me watching her, she looks back and waves me over.

“Thanks, you guys. I have to go,” I tell my parents.

“Wait. When do I get to meet her?” Mom begs.

“Soon,” I say and hang up.

Walking over to the fridge, I grab the beers and head back outside.

Tossing Noah his, I open Logan’s and hand it to her.

When she takes it, she looks at me with a big smile on her face and I love seeing how happy she is. I join her and she climbs in my lap without me having to tell her.

“What’s that look for?” Logan asks. She looks at me, trying to understand where this sudden change in my mood came from.

Pressing my forehead against hers, I mutter, “Thank you for giving me a second chance.”

“Of course.”

I kiss her soft lips. When I pull back, her cheeks are flushed. I don’t know if it’s from the kiss, the alcohol, or the hot water. Whatever it is, I don’t care. My girl is here with me, and I couldn’t be happier.

Chapter Twenty-One

Logan

Yesterdaywasunexpected.

We spent the entire day with Noah at Grayson’s family home. I was so nervous when Noah showed up but as soon as he sat down, I felt like I had known him for years.

I thought I was going to feel uncomfortable, but I didn’t. Even if I would have, Gray was always there. I felt safe for the first time in so long. I didn’t realize how much I needed that feeling of security until we got home last night, and I didn’t rush to lock the door. Which is something I haven’t done since I left New York.

Noah and I talked for hours about everything from hiking to some of the funniest things I’ve seen in the ER. I don’t remember the last time I just sat back and relaxed without feeling like I had to be aware of my surroundings constantly.

I haven’t had too many male friends over the years other than the ones that turned into a friends-with-benefits situation.
