“How kind.” Unbelievably, a part of her was enthralled as she imagined meeting him there in the morning, dressed once again as his scandalous maid. “Thank you, sir.”
“You look so good. I see no reason to change what we’ve started here, and...” He paused, leaning closer. “I think we both know how much you enjoy wearing it.”
There was no realistic way she could dispute his claim.
“But the skirt is rather short, sir?” She gestured to the lacy hem. “I might be a little cold if I have to wear it all day.”
“I’ll turn the heating up and stoke the fires,” he assured her. “And ensure you have some fine-looking stockings to show off those gorgeous legs.”
Stockings and additional heat? She could live with that.
“Thank you.”
Life with Kyle was like living with a dark and unpredictable god. She’d learned not to query how he’d achieve the things he set his mind to. Instead, she trusted that he would and considered how she’d manage the repercussions.
“I’ll make sure the stockings are left outside your door.” His smile was sly, as though he was already contemplating how she’d look in the hosiery.
“Is this only about sex, sir?” God knows she’d reveled in the chance to ride his cock, but she might as well know if his daily expectations included polishing the thing.
“Absolutely not.” His thumb moved to stroke her cheek. “The sex is a wonderful addition, Amy, but make no mistake about it, you’re here to work for me, and work you shall.”
Christ. When he smoldered at her that way, she swore she could spontaneously go up in flames.
“I’m ready to work, sir.” She lifted her chin. “I want to be the best housekeeper you’ve ever had.”
She always took great pride in her work, whether it was cleaning the floor of the huge office block she used to work at or handling dull legal text. She wanted to do a good job, but she had to admit, there wasn’t usually such an alluring remuneration package to tempt her, let alone the prospect of the incendiary sexual attraction they seemed to share.
“I believe you.” His digits tightened at her jaw as he closed the distance between their bodies. “And when you make good on that promise, little girl, I want to give you everything you deserve.”
Chapter Sixteen
Aftermath

SLEEP WAS FRUSTRATINGLYhard to find. In the darkness of Amy’s room, there was no solace for the innumerable memories that seemed to be crowding around her bed. She squeezed her eyes closed, frantically hoping she could push the image of Graham and her old life from her mind, but however hard she tried, she couldn’t exorcise the ghost of her late husband.
