“Well, will you reveal yourself to her or whatever?” I begged. “Please, Sulde… dear… gan. Suldeargan. Please, she’s scared to death.”
I watched a grin appear on his face as he stood up from my bed. There was that fucking bulge again. I swear it followed me wherever I moved, like those creepy eyes on haunted house paintings.
“Only because you asked nicely.” He winked at me as he stood there.
I waited for something to happen, but nothing did. Well, nothing I could see anyway. Suddenly, Kelly gasped and jumped back into the hallway.
“What the fuck!” she shrieked, backing into the wall.
I quickly followed her and took her hand. “So, apparently I can always see him, but he can… choose to show himself to other people, I guess.”
“You two just had a whole ass conversation?” she asked. “While you were standing there? He can talk to you?”
“I can talk to anyone.” Suldeargan chuckled.
“Holy shit.” She covered her mouth with her free hand.
I squeezed her other one and sighed. “Kelly, this is… Suldeargan. Suldeargan, this is Kelly.”
He gave a rather overdramatic bow. “Pleased to meet you. Well, officially.”
“I don’t even want to know what that means.” She pinched the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes. “All right. Okay. So there’s a demon in our apartment. And the demon is stuck to you, so it can’t leave. Have we considered killing it?”
Suldeargan laughed. My eyes went wide, and I shook my head quickly. If he thought we were a threat to him, he might just go ahead and kill me. “N-no, I don’t plan on doing that. Even if I could, I… no.”
“Why the fuck not?” she hissed at me.
“She’s being polite,” Suldeargan answered for me, moving closer until he was standing in my doorway. “She doesn’t want me to think I’m in danger because if I did think that, I’d kill her first. But I’m not concerned about that. I don’t think Mia’s first, second, or third instincts would be to kill me. Besides, even if I’m wrong, she can’t do it.”
“What does that mean?” Kelly raised an eyebrow. “Why can’t she kill you? If you tell me demons are immortal, I swear–”
“No.” He crossed his arms over his chest. I couldn’t be sure, but I could almost swear that he flexed his cock in those tight pants of his. Not that I was looking. I mean, it was just—the thing was big! It drew attention, dammit.
“No,” he continued. “Demons aren’t immortal, but there’s precious little in the world with the power to kill us. You can stab me or set me on fire if you want. It won’t do anything.”
Kelly looked at me quickly. “Can we try it?”
“What?” I blinked. “No!”
“He could be lying!” She gestured to him.
“If he’s lying, he’s not going to let us plunge a knife into his he–” I paused in the middle of that sentence and looked over at him. “Do you… have a heart? Or blood? Or… other human organs?”
“It’s relative.” He shrugged. “I have what you could call blood and something that functions like a heart, but they’re not the same thing. I will tell you that my ‘blood,’ if you want to call it that, is poisonous to humans.”
“All right, we need a new plan.” Kelly sighed and rubbed her face.
“It’s late right now,” Suldeargan pointed out. “You two should rest.”
I looked over at him, surprised. I just wasn’t expecting him to say something… considerate, I guess. I didn’t know why he cared.
“Great,” Kelly agreed. “We’re going to sleep in Mia’s room. You go sleep on the roof or lock yourself out in the hallway.”
He let out a deep belly laugh. “You’re funny. But I’m not going anywhere. Where Mia sleeps, that’s where I’ll be.”
“And how the hell do we know you won’t hurt her in her sleep?” Kelly snapped.
“Because he’d have done it already,” I said softly. She gave me a confused look, so I nodded. “If he wanted me dead, he could have killed me without even waking me up. Or after I woke up. Or when I walked back here with you. I’ve been vulnerable to him all night. He never hurt me.”
