“I feel like I hardly see you anymore,” Kathleen said before she took a drink of her Cosmo.

“Yeah, I know. Sorry, I’ve been busy.”

“With a new girlfriend I’ve yet to meet, but Alec somehow has.” Kathleen lifted an inquisitive eyebrow at her.

“He’d been bugging me, you know that. I thought if he just met Silver and knew she and I were together, he’d give up. And he has. It’s been two weeks, and he hasn’t said a word to me unless it’s been work-related.”

“It’s more about the fact that you have a girlfriend, Honor. I was talking to you about Christina, and you went out with her, but you were with someone else.”

“No, it’s not like that.” Honor shook her head. “Silver and I met before I met Christina, technically, but we weren’t together. We weren’t even dating then.”

“So, you went out with Christina actually open to the idea of dating her?”

“Yes,” she replied, only half-lying. “It’s complicated. I swear, I wasn’t trying to hurt your sister-in-law. I just started getting to know Silver better, and then it was clear to me that I wanted to be with her. Christina is great, and I’d like to be her friend, if she’s interested in that.”

“You never have time for me, and I’m already your friend. Seems like you’re always with Silver these days.”

“It’s a new relationship, Kathleen. And you know it’s the first one that’s actually mattered to me. I’m out now. Even at the office, pretty much everyone knows. I’m sure Alec told them, because I know I didn’t, but it’s fine. I’m good with it.”

“That’s great, Honor. I’m really proud of you. And I don’t want to give you a hard time. I know how it is, being in a new relationship. I just miss you.”

“I know. I miss you, too.” Honor gave her a sympathetic smile.

“But it’s good with Silver? You like her?”

Honor nodded and said, “I do. She’s amazing. We just… work. She gets me in a way no one else ever has. And she makes me feel good about being who I am, too. It’s just really good.”

“That’s great,” Kathleen replied. “You’re not going to get hurt, are you? She’s the first woman you’ve been with.”

“I don’t know. I guess there’s always a chance of that happening in every relationship, but I’m happy, and I think she is, too. She’s been out of town all week, visiting with a possible artist she’s trying to work with. They have this amazing project involving water, and she’s been obsessively talking about it every day for the past week or so.” Honor laughed a little. “It’s been really cute. I miss her, though. It’s only been a few days, and I miss her. I can’t wait until she comes home the day after tomorrow.”

“That’s sweet, Honor.” Kathleen smiled at her. “I’ll stop giving you a hard time now. Want to watch the interns embarrass themselves at the bar with me?” Kathleen nodded to where one of their three interns was clearly flirting with another one, but the other one was not interested.

“No, I’ve been her before – or, rather, I didn’t even have the courage to try to flirt how she is right now, so I sympathize,” she replied.

They sat and talked for over an hour before Kathleen got their check and paid for the one drink each they’d had. Honor was about to stand up to walk out with her, but she saw Lara over in the corner of another booth. Lara met her eyes and held up her highball glass.

“Are you coming?” Kathleen asked.

‘I hope I will be soon,’ Honor thought to herself.

“I see someone I know from a thing with Silver,” she told Kathleen instead. “I’m going to say hi and catch up. You go. I’ll see you at work.”

“You sure? I drove us.”

“I’m good. I’ll get a car,” Honor replied, pulling out her phone for another reason entirely.

“Okay. Well, I’ll see you at work, then.”

Honor typed her message and hit send.

Honor Wrenley: Lara

She waited for a moment, knowing Silver had been busy day and night with work while she was away but hoping the woman would reply before she actually agreed to anything with Lara. When she started walking over to the booth where Lara was waiting, her phone buzzed.

Silver Kincade: Have fun. I love you.

Honor typed back and added a little heart at the end like a high schooler with a crush. Then, she sat down across from Lara.
