“That is really sweet of you.” And then he was off.

Uh-oh. Had this been planned it so that Jeff could be alone with her? It didn’t matter. She wanted to speak with him anyway. Blair was not one to shy away from confrontation. “I’m sorry you didn’t join us last night.”

He turned slightly to the side and placed his hands behind his back. Jeff then pulled out the chair in front of her desk and sat down. “I thought you needed your rest. I went downstairs to work. When Zane didn’t come down, I figured he was staying in the loft to make sure you were safe.”

When he looked up at her, Blair had no idea if he was telling the truth or not. For now, she’d let it drop. After all, she was staying at his place for free. “That was considerate of both of you, but wouldn’t Charlene know if someone entered the building? Or don’t you have cameras inside the place?”

He smiled. “Good thinking. Yes, she would know once we set the alarm for the night.”

“I see. Have you learned anything new about the robbery or my accident?” She'd discuss the two of them getting together later.

“We might have. Do you know a Daryl Dragman?” he asked.

She repeated his name in her head. “Can’t say I do. Who is he?”

Jeff explained that when he and Zane stopped by Mr. Hensley’s place to ask about someone he knew in Midvale, Daryl Dragman, an insurance agent, was there.

She shook her head. “I don’t understand. Do you suspect him of something?”

“Not really. We’re just trying to make sure to investigate every angle.”

“I see. No leads on who might have broken into the Hensley’s house then? I thought you said one of the people Mr. Hensley turned down for a loan might be guilty.”

“Good memory. Jacob Crenshaw. He’s the person we wanted to speak to Mr. Hensley about. Crenshaw had a motive, but I don’t think he had the means to hire anyone to pull off the heist.”

“How do you know he didn’t come himself? He could have a friend who was willing to join him,” she said.

“I guess that’s possible. I’ve not met the man so I don’t know whether he would be capable of crossing the difficult terrain.”

“Are you thinking that two skilled mountain climbers are responsible?” she asked.

“We don’t know enough to say,” Jeff told her.

Her shoulders sagged. “So we’re nowhere?”

“For the moment.”

Zane returned. “What did I miss?”

“Nothing, other than I’m starving waiting for you,” Blair said, trying to act as if the lack of progress wasn’t upsetting her.

“Then let’s eat.”

Zane wanted to ask Jeff questions about whether he and Blair discussed what happened in the bedroom last night, but every time Zane used telepathy, Blair seemed to become suspicious. Keeping things from her wouldn’t end well if they wanted to have a future together.

When her cell rang after finishing lunch, it was their clue to leave. “Call when you need us to pick you up,” he said.

She smiled. “I know the routine. Thank you. For everything.”

When she licked her lips, Zane’s cock turned rock hard. His reaction to her seemed to grow stronger with each day. He turned to Jeff. “We should check with Mason about a few things.”

“Sure.”

His friend would know that was just an excuse to get out of there. Jeff had just spoken with his cousin.

Once they slipped into Zane’s car, he faced Jeff. “Did she say anything about our lovemaking session last night?”
